Froome was actually better than I expected today. Finished 17th only 1'34" behind Sivakov, which is pretty good considering I don't think he was in the leading group after the descent.

To me it looked like a decent amount of riders only got dropped on the descent (honestly, wouldn't go all out on a wet descent with that kind of weather, but I'm also not a pro).
Zimmerman lost less than 2min, he's an interesting prospect to watch.

Nibali has looked the strongest in the race so far. Curious to see if he can translate that to winning the race on the harder stages, stage 4 and 5. He certainly looks good for the Giro, maybe even Liege.

neither were the others around him though. We obviously don't know for sure who was in which group behind, but in all likelihood he did the final climb 3 seconds faster than Gabburo and Carboni, which doesn't make it look that good anymore.

Chapeau Sivakov - yesterday Hart, today Sivakov. The young guns for Sky making claims for GT spots. Froome never likes the cold and did not seem happy on the climb.
The guys doing the Giro should be in better shape so interesting that Nibs and Majka are seemingly equal going uphill. It'll be interesting to see how they perform during TotA.

I dont get all the Hart hype tbh. Yeah he was good in Dauphine, but declaring him the next British GT winner is very premature (which some commentators seem to do). I don't think he is as talented as a lot of other young climbers and he is 24 years old, not super young. I see him as a very good domestique who can do well in week long stage races and top-10 in the Giro and Vuelta, maybe the Tour, but not much more.

Wednesday's stage 3 - Salurn/Salorno to Baselga di Pinè 106.3km

Start 11.20 CET TV from 13.00 CET Finish around 14.15 CET

After the longest stage, the Tour of the Alps continues with the shortest, across Südtirol and Trentino. The short distance could be misleading though: except for the first 8 km, the riders will hardly find any flat terrain all the way to the finish. When in Lavis, the peloton will face a first challenging climb, also passing through Palù di Giovo, the home town of Francesco Moser and Gilberto Simoni. Up-and-downs will continue until Cembra, with harder slopes in the Segonzano area. The climb to Brusago also features double-digit gradients in the early part. After about 63 km, and just more than 40 to go, the race will pass through Baselga di Pinè for the first time. The descent to Torchio precedes the 6 tough kilometers all the way up to the Santa Colomba Lake. A descent and more short drags precede the final - and arguably decisive - ascent: from the Canzolino Lake to Montagnaga, whose final kilometers averages 10% gradient, and that terminates with only 3 km to the finish, placed on Baselga di Pinè’s lakefront at the end of another gentle climb.

Happens to all sorts of riders though who have a few good results, but I agree with your post.

In that race there are more motos than riders, in some moments looked more like a moto parade than a cycling race.

Unfortunately, I can't watch the race in the live broadcast, but there are reruns, so I can see Sky's stylish withdrawal from the peloton and fierce racing in general.
The GT field looks good, too. Those are the riders who know themselves very well and understand the demands of 3 weeks' racing, after all.

I was fully on the TGH (see? he has his own shorthand now!) hype train early last year and after the Dauphine but he didn't reach the level I thought he would. Maybe because after Wiggins/Froome/Thomas and now Bernal, you have to respect ANY Sky rider who gets to be in the sharp end on a mountain stage. We'll see.

Of course he is. I seriously don't believe any of Froome's results outside of a GT matter one iota.

The only thing that matters for Froome is being in the best shape he can be for number 5 in July. As I’ve said before, I don’t expect to see anything from him until the Dauphine, a race he usually likes to do well in.
