Sky didn't played this well

Why? Masnada 1”50 down and mopped up the 10 bonus seconds.
Yeah, but Tao was the favorite for the reduced sprint...

Maybe, but he only beat Majka by a couple of inches, plus then Nibali would have got bonus seconds as well as extra for Majka.

It wasn't bad.

Honestly having Geoghan Hart join the Masnada attack might have been better if Sivakov leaves a gap.

Nice to see Froome's graceful form on the attack once again. That was a pretty exciting finish -- I thought Majka was going to ride away at one point; he was looking pretty fresh. Now watching La Fleche...

Well that's weird.

Just watched a recording, and as the camera lingers on the finish line we see the ten men behind Masnada (Carboni having just about made it into the group) then with the gantry timer on 10 seconds, someone (possibly a Manzana jersey) clearly between that group and Froome, but absent from the results list, and a couple of seconds after Froome someone in Gazprom/Italia kit, also omitted from the result list (and this several hours after the finish).

Probably of no significance to the honours, but two men are being deprived of recognition, and would have to make one dubious about the accuracy of results elsewhere in the field.

are you sure it was Manzana, and not Nippo? Because Canola and Ravanelli (initially listed as 12th and 13th, I think) were disqualified, so that would explain their absence

edit: for "deviation from the race route constituting an advantage", by the way. I guess they took a shortcut through the final roundabout?!

Edit 2: yep, the roundabout inside the final km it was. Canola says he did it by mistake, and immediately apologized for it. No idea idea if that's true or not, but it looks like quite a harsh penalty either way.

Seems a bit tough a disqualification ...

Thursday's stage 4 is from Baselga di Pinè to Cles (134 km) start 12.00 CET TV from 14.00 CET

The race resumes from Baselga di Pinè for TotA stage 4. The first 20 km will be mostly on descent, except for some flat stretches, until the peloton reaches the valle dell’Adige. Crossing Lavis and Mezzolombardo, the peloton will reach the Val di Non, and start climbing toward Campodenno. Several kilometers at high altitudes, with some up-and-downs, will eventually take the peloton to Cles for the first time after 55 km. The race will move in the Northern part of the valley, passing through Revò and Brez to start the demanding Forcella di Brez climb. After returning to Revò, the peloton will cross the valley again to Mollaro. From there, the long ascent to rifugio Sores and Passso Predaia begins, topping with 19 km to go. The first 11 km of those are downhill, and 3 are mixed, but then with 5 km to go, the Sanzennone climb, also locally known as “la Puntara” (2 km at 7% average, but with the central one kilometer at 11%, and peaks at 15%) is likely to decide the final outcome of the stage and further light up the finale. From the top, only 3 mostly flat kilometers will remain between the leaders and the finish line in Cles. That leaves the race open to every kind of solution: the final drag could launch the decisive attack of a solo rider, or a reduced group.

Ah, thanks. There was no explanation on the race site or any of the results sites (that I had looked at), and although I saw on PCS that there were disqualifications, I wasn't sure that I had heard those names as having been given as members of a bunch near the front. And it could very easily have been a Nippo kit and not as bright as Manzana.

Those climbs are harder than I realised.

this is looking ominous for the summer

Very. Froome is just using this race as a form-builder for July, but he already looked the strongest of everyone today (stage 3), reeling in attacks by Majka and Nibali. Imagine his form come July. The only suspense will be how badly he lays the wood to his teammate G.T.

The finish is similar to Weds stage 3 - descent, little flat section, steep ramp then flat run in. Can not see anyone attack on the Cat 1 as it's 60 km from finish so everyone will be together for the Cat 2.

Nibs, Majka plus Sky guys to repeat Weds stage.

That's really harsh. A 10 second penalty would be more appropriate.
And why did they have to go the wrong way through the roundabout in the first place?

the right lane looks fairly narrow, so that's probably why they had to go all the way around

The long way took the favorite's group something around 8s by the way, so taking the shortcut probably only gained Canola & Ravanelli 5s or so. But who knows... maybe they almost ran over the waving marshallsl or so

Vuillermoz in the break. He is the virtual leader right now. A. Nibali, Zeits, Samitier, Aranburu, Zardini, Gesbert and Reyes are with him.
