About 55k of comparatively easy roads now till they start the circuits. Can't see much happening till then?

Then don't use them in the first place? It doesn't take a genius to come up with that idea. Usually, when it rains hard, people know which roads are useful and which aren't.

Exactly my point, thank you If it is a thing that re-occurs, they should have known this could have happened. And if they know this could have happened, they should not have used said roads. Don't get the need to make such comments that only look at the outcome, rather than the things that could have prevented this mess and the needs to change the course.
Why not use them in the first place? That makes no sense. If there's a very small chance something might happen (this is almost on par with landslides at 1500m during the Giro, you're not gonna ask for all climbs to be taken out of that one are you?) then there's no need to prepare a route specifically for that rare event and miss it on the good stuff in the much more likely case it doesn't happen. You don't build stuff for the 1% chance, especially if there's a decent alternative option which is what has been taken. I really don't see the 'mess' you're talking about.

It looks really dangerous in the convoy of cars today on these narrow roads, especially with some of the pinch points where parts are flooded.

No idea if that counts for anything, but Evenepoel looks more ok-ish than most riders imo.

BBC seems to have finally gone to live pictures. Meanwhile the "home of cycling" is showing superbikes and snooker today

These are hard men!!the Hungarian kid beefed it right after feeding. It's 330 in the morning here in Ensenada ..having a hard time staying awake!!
The YouTube channel is really really great.these guys changing rain jackets is a puzzle..would have thought that GoreTex or equivalent would hold up..but it looks like guys are changing from soaking wet to slightly less set jackets..

Danish TV2 published an article, based on the pre-race interviews, in which the Danish riders say the route change has completely changed their game plan.

They were going to attack the race on the climbs, but will now ride passively until the circuit in Harrogate is reached.

If they had a remote chance they wouldn't be there. I could see someone like Houle being last man standing

I don't think they have a real chance as Quintana and Roglic are most likely a little cooked from the Vuelta, but being out in front of the peloton -- when a crash could take out a big chunk of the field -- is a pretty good place to be.
