I hope the gusts of wind aren't becoming too dangerous (riding a disc with sidewind on a 100K/hr downhill isn't really comforting!).
Campenaerts' crash however was purely about braking enough before the corner.
He bragged before the TT that his bike had disc wheels and thus he could brake faster than Ganna on rim brakes (and thus would gain some seconds in the hairpins).
That backfired quickly.
He didn't "brag" about anything. He said that if he had one advantage, it would be the disc brakes but he gave himself 10% chance at most to win it.

Campanaerts and Dowsett failures leaving Bilbao an unlikely early hot seat lol

Average drop off really hard in the final 5km, I don't think the record will fall today

Does the wind take off later in the afternoon? It seems to have a dramatic effect on how willing the riders are to take risks and ride with full force.

Almeida 57,46 km/h.
Unless the kid has become one of the strongest TTers in the world overnight, I'm pretty confident the record will fall.

The cobbles are smooth Sampietrini stones, so they wouldn't be a huge factor.

It's not exactly Carrefour de l’Arbre.

So Campenaerts saying that he is more than happy to finish that TT. Slippery roads he said.

Dirt on the roads, lots of bumps on the city center streets ... He was kinda 'hard' in his post race interview. Disappointment aside, I believe him.

He bragged. Disc brake have a theoretical braking advantage, but at that speed you just can't risk braking a second later. And he just proved that.
Ofcourse, when Ganna overcooks the first hairpin in about an hour, I take back my words :)
You confuse making a factual statement (the disc breaks are a help) with bragging.
The hairpin is very oily in places, apparently. He didn't crash because he braked too late, he crashed because he hit a greasy patch.

Simon Yates has started. Strong wind probably not helping someone so light.
