This "new" Campenaerts is godawful. Forgets about the only ability that makes him relevant in the peloton (Top 5 / Top 10 Time triallist) in order to become a subpar classics rider and one of the weakest breakaway hunters in the pack.

I thought it was Almeida.

I wouldn't consider it that way. I think he's already felt quite fulfilled as time trialist, he managed to set hour record and maybe he didn't see that much space to develop himself further as a TT guy. Considering also that the level of competition in TT went up strongly in last few years, he decided to try something new, to find a new role in the peleton. I really appreciate this kind of attitude.

Yeah but no the brightest thing to do, IMHO. He is bound to patrol the bunch like Tony Martin if he continues like this.

I agree with this. Worse riders than him have won GT stages, and he was clearly strong enough on stage 8, but was a little unlucky not to get anything out of his many attacks. He has himself to thank for not getting on the wheel when Cerny won his stage last year though.

I mean if it gets him work by doing that, it's worth doing . Theres more room in teams for strong rouleurs, road captains, sprint train riders etc than guys who can top 5 a TT. He spent end of last season struggling to get a team so if he needs to reinvent himself as a rider to continue racing he needs to do that tbf

Not one rider from DSM even tried to get in the break today
Must be because they believe the GC guys will fight for the stage

Mind you they did the same on the Montalcino as did other teams and got it completely wrong and missed the easiest to win stage in the Giro so far
