Girmay being way smarter than VdP right now. Didn't do a single pull so far.

Cort's chase group caught by the peloton, I think that's it. Or FdJ needs to start chasing after the climb.

Martin in the group... they wont get much time. Or they will be inviting him back into the race.

EF trying for so long and now just giving up. Looks the break is gone now.

Can't see FDJ bringing this back by themselves for a sprint so it will be if the top GC teams want to control Martin.

FDJ ain't bringing this back. I think they just realised from the get go that Demare was never winning this stage and gave up.

I think for Trek, not sure I'd want to go too hard to control the gap to Martin. Lopez likely loses pink tomorrow anyway at Blockhaus, so killing yourself for one day extra isn't that smart imo.

Look at Juanpe Lopez, laying down the orders and furiously sticking his team on the front, banging his fist on the table, shades of Hinault.

Martin isn't a threat in the long run. The only reason why he ends up high in GC's is because he does this every time. But he's not consistent enough to contend for a top 5 and his recovery isn't good enough either. He already bled a minute and a half on Etna. He'll lose tons of time in the third week.

Maybe that will very much be the case, but still, Etna could have just been a bad day also.

I do think that the likes of Carapaz, Yates etc could give Martin a 5-6 minute headstart at least and it won't matter by the end of the race, even if Martin is on top form.

I didnt say he will win the Giro by doing this, or did I?

If he gets a decent result for GC, or even a KOM jersey and perhaps a stage-win with him to go over these three weeks, then cudos to him for doing this "every time".

He can get away with it. MvdP not so much. He literally had to ride off so they would organise themselves. De Gendt did the same for a bit also.

Maybe I didnt think people would think I meant him winning the race.

Moreso inviting him back into a decent GC-position and the top 10 of the race, which he may fall out of sooner rather than later.

Bit odd for VDP not to just get himself in 2nd in that sprint. Might not mean much but might aswell get yourself some extra points incase or dnfs and you might luck into the jersey.
