I don't think it is already reduced to a two horse race, but that is certainly a useful head start.
Laigueglia on Tuesday is our next event, but the startlist, as it stands, has few selected riders.

Every year I sort of regret not having Le Samyn included in the game, especially a few years ago when I had 3rd place Gaudin as a unique pick.

I stick to the objective criteria of .Pro and above rather than just including it because I like the race, but if I had included it this year, it would only have increased the early dominance of Rufs:

But you are not getting those points (or dropping that much farther behind the leader), so just forget them.

I haven't actually seen it yet (nor am I sure that it is available anywhere), but the results sheet makes me wonder what on Earth was happening.

No-one in the game is a big enough UAE fan to have based all their picks there, but someone who claims his allegiance lies elsewhere went close.

I have made an executive decision to change the scoring in the green points from previous years. After the teams above, there were 20 teams who were all joint 9th, and in the past I had shared the 3 points granted to 9th and 10th between them all, giving them all 0.15 points. Then I would have decided that it is handier to have 8 teams with odd fractions than 20 doing so, and I'd subtract 0.15 from all the scores. But I have decided that if you don't get a rider among the scorers, you don't deserve a point or even a fraction of one, so there are three points fewer in the green classification in this race than in most. Today it only makes a difference of 0.15 points: even if there were to be a race in which only one manager picks a scoring rider, this change would be worth only 5.41 points additional advantage.

TRiley, who seems to be specialising in the southern European events, so far at least, moves back up the table, and JVF positions himself as the main challenger to the top two: Rufs continues to pick up a good haul everywhere.

Strade Bianche should normally bring quite high scores in this game, but the favourites are prohibitively expensive, so who knows? Saturday will yield answers.

Race 6: Strade Bianche
Not merely metaphorically prohibitively expensive, but actually ineligible for the game expensive.

Let's just assume that we weren't really thinking about this race when we selected our teams, shall we?

11 days off now, as focus switches to Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico. When we return, there are five races in 4 days: four of them are 1.Pro category events, but the last is the first Monument, Milan-San Remo.

Until then, a reminder of where to find the spreadsheet, and an update on the interforum challenge:
CN Forumites: 182
Team VeloRooms: 112

Race 7: Milano-Torino Yeah, I know it is race 8 in the list in the OP, but I am hoping that there is more to watch in Nokere than the inevitable sprint that this one was, so I am keeping time to watch that later and not looking at its result yet.

CQ points
But it is not just about where you come in each race: it is the CQ points accumulated that are the main competition. Rus holds on, Laarsland gets close, Slow Climber takes some interest, Bicycle Boy is less embarrassed, and most of us have a crick in our necks from looking up.

Tomorrow is the great climbers on cobbles experiment.

Race 9: GP de Denain
It would have been a rather bigger story if that break had made it to the end. It scores very low here with or without the break.

Koksijde tomorrow. Laarsland has De Lie on the startlist, so you may as well put your money on him.

Race 10: Bredene Koksijde
The long prelude to MSR provides an excellent opportunity to catch up on yesterday's result.

I run this classification in the hope that it might give someone else a taste of glory. Not so far...

CQ points
The big news, of course, is that I nudge into the top ten. Others might think that a new entry to the top 5 or a five place jump for the day's winner, or the leading margin growing is more relevant, but they would be wrong.

Big points available in the first of the monuments this afternoon, but the main favourites are not selected for the game (4 teams have Pedersen though, and 3 have Sagan). I suspect we will be looking in the lower part of the top ten to see what might make a difference in this game.

Back to Belgium on Wednesday for Bruges - De Panne

Reactions: vladimir
Wow, thought that I did quite well with Turgis and SKA but never expected it to be enough to win a monument in this game:D. A bit of poetic justice that it was Ivan Garcia who made the diffence. He has sacrified his own chances twice this week by being a perfect helper for Kanter and Aranburu. Hopefully he will be the protected rider for Movistar when they return to Belgium in the next two weeks...

Race 12: Brugge-De Panne

Groenewegen much cheaper here than in the main game: some people saw that as an opportunity.

And, because it is a WT race, 5 points for every rider who finishes, 29 of them selected for the game today.

CQ Points
Notable rises for Kazistuta and Amis Velo, and Jumbo Fan into the top 5. About halfway through the series of races, with most of the bigger scoring events to come, and plenty of teams will feel they are in a position to challenge. Those that made an early breakaway are more or less back in the pack by now.
