Unless somehow things happen on Giau, Thomas, Roglic and Almeida will go down as the most pathetic GT podium of all time, and it won't be particularly close. Why couldn't one of them be exiled from the WT rather than Lopez or Quintana?

I'm one of the guys who doesn't really like full on dominance by a Pog or Vingegaard, but it's 10 times better than this. They actually try to win.

I won't complain next time Pog wins 5 stages in a row with 50km solo's as I know it could be worse.

Exactly. Lots of people simply do not understand this mechanic, and we saw lots of people complaining left and right about long solos, the big 6 etc. this spring.

THIS is the opposite, and this is what some people like (apparently!). Same with the Giro last year. Some people actually enjoy extremely conservatively ridden races as long as its close and 'exciting' in the end compared to watching the best riders just going balls deep and dominating these lesser riders, and sometimes, producing some extremely memorable duels like Flanders 2023 or TdF 2022.

Well, the one stage they did make the race hard and chase the breakaway all day, Roglic got dropped and the bonus seconds went to Thomas and Almeida. So there you have your reason.

So what? If he drops, he drops anyway. If they don't have faith in him winning a sprint to the line on this stage, do they really think he's gonna take 30s of Thomas tomorrow in the ITT?

Was just going to say that if Ineos wants to see what Roglic can do on a fresh 15-minute effort they deserve to lose.

On the flip side, if Buitrago has the legs he should aim for 6W/kg on this climb and let whoever can hold on do so. The break won't make it on Derek Gee's surely very tired legs or chasing random attacks.

P.S. Unless he's just there to set up a Caruso bridge, which seems like a waste.
