2023 Women's WT CQ Game

Page 7 - Get up to date with the latest news, scores & standings from the Cycling News Community.
You do have some riders who are/have been injured or simply hit by bad luck, but you also have some who should be able to deliver you a decent amount of points later in the season.
I appreciate your faith in my team but you should know that I've been playing those games since 2011 and in that time I've only had three good teams (one of which ended up being completely wrecked by injuries). All three got off to flying starts so being last by a decent margin in mid march certainly doesn't inspire a ton of confidence.

I have to hope Rufs' more questionable picks will become costly at some point now that I'll be losing Faulkner's 73 points from Strade Bianche.

You hang onto them for now, at least.
From the OP in this thread:
If CQ does change the allocation of points, I will follow that lead: equally if they make any controversial decisions, I will follow them unless error of fact is evident. Any disqualifications, or appeals against such, that are recorded at CQ before the end of the game (17 October) will be applied within the game, but if sanctions are applied thereafter, the results of the game will not be revised.

I'll look back at their Strade Bianche results page from time to time, but for now, you have your 73 points.

Strade Bianche revisited
With the disqualification of Kristen Faulkner, that rider, and the three teams that include her, lose 73 points. But other riders will get a bonus to their scores instead:

Samu holds onto second, but Rufs has a lead that has almost doubled (139 pts rather than 71): Lukas drops 3 places, Leadbelly 6, and Slow Climber gains 4, otherwise changes are just those one place moves where one of the adversely affected teams dropped past.

Very nice to hold the lead for a short period but guess the team won't last a whole season. Two who do not contribute to the team is not good. Guessing that the trio SamuCuenca, Josedin and LibertineSeguros will pass me within 3 weeks :-o)

Race 7: Trofeo Binda

Main Points (CQ)
The top four teams this morning were all in the bottom 5 of scorers today: my guess is that those of us who don't follow women's racing much were more aware of Van Androoij than of most because of her cyclocross exploits that were fresh in our minds at the time that teams were being picked. So now everyone has a reasonably healthy looking number next to ttheir name, and several new managers can consider themselves in the running.

Attention switches to Belgium and rides near its borders for the next 7 events, so a particular subset of the riders are likely to have a big impact between now and the end of April.

But who has selected such riders? First hints of an answer in De Panne on Thursday.

Race 8 Brugges - De Panne
Far more successful selecting here than seen on the equivalent men's race yesterday (not directly comparable, because of team size apart from anything else, but markedly different nevertheless)
Nearly all the top ten were relevant to the game (as were 17 other finishers as three pointers)

After a rather poor start (21st place after UAE Tour), DJW is now up to 2nd: his riders obviously don't enjoy leaving Europe much. But more significantly, Samu is back in the lead, while Slow Climber and Skidmark enter the top ten.

Gent - Wevelgem on Sunday. Will today have established a pattern for the Belgian (and near Belgium) races?

Race 9 Gent - Wevelgem
A few hours after Evenepoel didn't do Evenepoel things in Barcelona, Reusser did them in Flanders.

Of the top 12, only the most expensive, Marta Bastianelli, was not picked by anyone.

So I need to think about a tiebreaker in this. In a similar vein to a tie in QoM rankings (and maybe slightly out of sympathy for what has happened in the overall), I'll give the nod to Rufs on the basis of more wins (not shown on the spreadsheet).

Main points table
Some big moves, and none bigger than those of two teams appearing on the podium. Although Samu Cuenca's lead might look convincing, consider where Rufs now sits, having been in the lead just 2 events ago. We are still less than 1/3 of the way through, and most of the stage races are still to come.

Race 9 Gent - Wevelgem
A few hours after Evenepoel didn't do Evenepoel things in Barcelona, Reusser did them in Flanders.

Of the top 12, only the most expensive, Marta Bastianelli, was not picked by anyone.

Next event is the Ronde next Sunday. CQ seem to be much slower posting for women's events, so it might be Monday before I can do anything.

I am thinking about giving up on the men's games completely and focussing on the women... but of course Deignan has not yet entered the game...

Race 10: Ronde van Vlaanderen

Unlike in the men's events, CQ ranks all WWT one day races equally, so this will only have the same points scale as Drenthe or Binda. However, we managed a good haul of points to reflect the race's standing.

On the grounds that he runs a Women's CQ game over at Parlamiento Ciclismo, I had assumed pre-game that Jon Ezeita would be one of the managers to beat in this game, and it hasn't been going that way so far (there again, I regularly demonstrate that running a game suggests no great knowledge or skill in participation). But at least he took the win here.

A rather poor race for our leader, Samu Cuenca, which sees the top of the table bunch up quite a bit.

Salvarani moved up 12 places, but doesn't break into the top ten. Amis Velo finally gets a top ten in a race, but two teams are still languishing on 0 points.

Main Game
And the lead changes again: DJW moves to the top. Still very small gaps most of the way through the field, so anyone can move several places with a decent haul in any race.
