So Ala the leader. Fernando put in a good time. Anacona will probably give it a try. I saw him in a photo pre-race and he looked very fit. Maybe he will put in good performances this year.

Wouldn't surprise me if Evenepoel lost too much time on the roundabout.
I think he just blew himself up completely. He lost +/- 20 seconds to some in the latter part of the course. It's all good though. 3rd is a very good result, and he'll learn from this mistake.

Definitely a learning experience that will help him get better for the future. 3rd place finish is a great way to have a learning experience as well.

For a kid who should be racing U-23s, from Remco a very promising performance. Chapeau Ala - polka dot winner & now TT king - does he think he's Froome?! :)

Anyway, with Alaphilippe gaining so much time now, we can hopefully look forward to relentless attacks of all the other GC hopefuls on stage 5.

I honestly don't think so. First of all, he was 20 seconds ahead of Alaphilippe at the roundabout (wasn't he?). Evenepoel isn't one to blow himself up on 6k. He wasn't "cooked" at the finishline... and Alaphilippe already had 6 seconds on Evenepoel when he had only left the roundabout for 1 or 2 k. That means he gained 26 seconds in a few kilometers, and in the final four kilometers, only expanded his lead marginally.

EDIT: nevermind, Alaphilippe was only 10 seconds behind at the intermedia, not 20. Intermediate was apparently after the roundabout.

Maybe? Although Alaphilippe is the more likely rider to actually attack. Maybe we'll find out if Quintana remembers how to attack?

Quintana's long range attack is exactly what I hope for. But the season has just started, the climb is not too difficult and Alaphilippe is a man of unexpected qualities so we shall see.

Except we haven't seen that from Quintana in years.

It was a nice attack for a stage win, but not one to go after the overall. Marc Soler did a nice one of those at Paris-Nice last year. Quintana's more recent years attacks have been for some nice stage wins, but haven't been the Contador type to go after the overall.

I'm glad he was given a penalty. Hopefully, this is show the riders that inappropriate actions will be penalized and we won't have anymore of these incidents. Maybe they waited until after today's stage to do their own investigation into what happened and then decide on an appropriate penalty. I just hope this penalty deters this type of behavior in the future.
