Mainly because he somehow still has only two pro wins.

He is good, no doubt. But because of his passport commentators overhype him to the level it just becomes cringy (in cyclocross races they talk about the big 3, as Pidcock was ever factor when Wout and MvdP were present) and he himself doesn't hold back with his overconfidence sometimes.

Maybe he has not won a lot yet because he has basically only competed in most of the biggest races and against very strong fields each time. That he "should" have won more is a bit harsh in that regard. I think we would need to see him race a couple of full road seasons with different type of races at different levels to be able to come to that conclusion. By that point, if he has still not won "many" races, I think you could say that. At least that is my opinion.

Where he has won so far speaks a lot about what he is capable of and his talent, but a lot of great riders has not ended up with as many wins as one would have probably expected. There are a lot of factors involved to be able to win bike-races. It is very hard for most riders to win more than 5-10 races over a career. 80% will never pass 10 wins and many just end up with 2-3 wins.

Yes, he exceeded expectations in his first year, but pretty much the exact opposite last season due to stomach issues, long-running knee problem and Covid. This was his second race day and he should be somewhere back to full potential this spring.

He is good, no doubt. But because of his passport commentators overhype him to the level it just becomes cringy (in cyclocross races they talk about the big 3, as Pidcock was ever factor when Wout and MvdP were present) and he himself doesn't hold back with his overconfidence sometimes.

Conveniently forgetting about the Christmas races this year when he was a factor. It's impressive to be anywhere near the two of the best CX riders of all time. And he is definitely one of, if not the best MTB ridersin the world. Juggling 3 disciplines isn't easy, just ask MVDP who hasn't been able to since The Olympics. And yes no doubt some of The UK commentators focus too much on him, but how much that winds you up is your decision.

(Yes, I know Philipsen wasn't technically a WT rider last year.)
