Isn't taking the wrong corner part of racing?

Should be, maybe puncturing on sterrato can be looked at as well and Yates given the 1”10 back he lost?

Buchmann should have crashed on purpose after missing that turn. Maybe they would have used the 3 km rule and put him in the same time as the group. ;)
Faking a crash wasn't even necessary.

The suits getting involved destroyed an otherwise brilliant race.

Too bad......
Nah... I wouldn't say the results are butchered, rather properly carved.

That's a brilliant message to send to the riders: Just follow closely in the slipstream of the motorbikes - that will lead you safely to the podium.

With a bit of luck A.Yates could have won TA/Catalunya and Pais Vasco - Anyway he should aim for a top 5 in the TDF.

If he has a team he should aim for the win !!!
He is so good now maybe he could go to the Giro instead of Simon
Ehm, no, thats the exact reason Adam is better than Simon now. Simon is building steadily towards the Giro where as Adam is peaking in the spring and later in the Tour as well.

A Yates will go the Tour as planed and my comment was tongue in cheek .
I'm sure you have no insight into Adam Yates and his form and how long is can last ..Like so many on here you talk as if you are some sort of expert on form when in fact everyone is different and an individual. Otherwise everyone would arrive at every race at their top ...which doesn't happen and everyone would stay at their top for the same length which doesn't happen

I'm still hoping we can expect riders to think and plan for themselves. Buchmann, who performed masterfully in defensive riding, should denounce the 3rd place and thereby reinstate the result as the original sporting outcome.

Its not too late.

Impressive perfomance by 22-year-old Jonas Vingegaard of Jumbo-Visma who finished in the Buchmann group. He is riding his first WorldTour race here.

"This was my first WorldTour race and the way of racing is different from what I was used to. I think I am adapting well to the level. Today was a very nice day for me.” - Jonas Vingegaard

I'm sure they both feel they've deserved the spot. And it's not like they're wrong.
Maybe two third places should be presented. One has already stood at the podium, and the other is written down. A case for the record books.
Would round-up this historic edition.

While i fully agree the 2nd group was misled by the camera bike, and thus should get compensated for that wrong turn (or straight, as it were)........ that camera bike should never have been there in the first place.

It is quite clear the pacing that bike gave the last kilometers, is exactly what brought the gap down, to where the podium was within reach again, because the front group never slowed down.

As such, I strongly disagree with the end result, and Fuglsang getting pulled of f the podium.

Fuglsang is furious. I guess he is gonna ride the Ronde van Vlaanderen next year. :D I think its a weird situation, but I not completely against it.

No, it is not quite clear, because we did not get to see a lot of pictures of what happened. I must admit it was weird seeing Buchmann's gap to Yates go down when Yates was attacking up the last hill, but I do not think too much trust can be placed in the GPS times.

The aftermath is ofcourse ridiculous as it should have been decided before the podium ceremony. It must also be strange for Buchmann to truly appreciate his podium only having experienced it from the side line and looking in the results list.

I don't know if I agree about the decision itself, but it's quite clear that the official was standing in a suspicious position. On the other hand, you would have expected these guys to know the finish a little bit better and also to consider (in the heat of the moment) that there are always car/moto-diversions before a finish line in any bike race. But maybe everyone in the group was exhausted to an extent where critical thinking was no longer possible (and consequently should not be expected).

Martinez and Fuglsang came at 25seconds.
I'm still not convinced by Schachmann climbing. If they race the last two stages really hard he can lose more than 2 minutes. Even Adam Yates still has a chance.
Right now I think that Ion Izagirre is the favourite.

Surely Izaguirre is favourite to be 3rd?

Surely...

Imagine the reverse was the case..... the first group misses the turn, the second does not, and gaps are slightly different..... then suddenly it should also be "fair" to strip Buchmann of the overall victory, and give it to the guy that missed a turn?

I think it is a ridiculous decision.
