Pollocks time 4:09:23, 13 sec ahead of Jorgensen, Haas, Bobridge and Debusschere.

This stage seems to have shaken up the overall gc a fair bit. I get the feeling the 2nd group was a fair bit behind.

Surely they should be able to get some final results out by now!? It is hours sine the race finished it seems.

So a 3rd party publishes them before the official website?

http://www.cyclingtipsblog.com/2011/10/2011-jayco-herald-sun-tour-stage-1-results/

The bunch was 10'24" down on the winner.

DNF Richie PORTE SBS
DNF Adrian HEGYVARY UHC
DNF Fabio CALABRIA TT1
DNF Kyle MARWOOD GEN
DNF Nikolay ZHURKIN RUS
DNF Akira KAKINUMA BLZ
DNF Atsuhito WAKASUGI BLZ

Should be some interesting tactics over the coming days as the teams of the top5 try and get people in the breaks.

so some of the domestic teams did well and PC and WT teams didn't dominate or control thinks like expected...interesting

6 man teams perhaps?
Partly yes, but partly because the smaller teams can cause some havoc for other teams. People were trying to claim that the big teams were going to diminate. Continental riders beat many WT riders today.

Looks like the GC will between these 6 riders

1 Rhys Pollock (Aus) Drapac Professional Cycling 4:09:23
2 Jonas Aen Jorgensen (Den) Saxo Bank-SunGard 0:00:13
3 Hathan Haas (Aus) Genesys Wealth Advisers
4 Jack Bobridge (Aus) Garmin-Cervelo
5 Jens Debusschere (Bel) Omega Pharma-Lotto
6 Reinardt Janse Van Rensburg (SAf) MTN - Qhubeka 0:00:20

Bobridge is probably the favourite but I wouldn't mind seeing Haas doing well and he could the way he is riding.

Great win for Pollock

Nice guy too. Even though he's unlikely to go overseas at his age, he's got a great story to tell his kids one day!

Bobridge will presumably be a bit disappointed, but he has to be the favourite for GC now. Any of the other breakaway riders that can hang with him three times over Arthur's Seat will deserve the win.

Bit of a fail for Katusha, and the Russian and Australian national teams. Indeed, I'm surprised that the other big teams were prepared to let a break with Bobridge in it go.

Rofl. Think about your terminology. You can't shake up a GC that hasn't even commenced yet. It's Stage 1. This should change the complexion of the final GC. It should change who the final players are but it can't shake up anything that's not there.

Pity we couldn't watch that stage either, other than Arthur's Seat likely to be the best racing we'll see/watch highlights of. It was a very PCM-esque break away there. With a small peloton (sub 100 riders), a 16 man break which got time was always going to be tough to bring back. Bobridge in a break away has been deadly this year. As for the GC. Bobridge, Jorgensen and Haas now have a real chance for it. AS wont create such time gaps as 10 minutes unless something complete ****s up. Imagine if Bobridge does well up there...all the "Jacky is a future climbing great" fans will come out of the woodwork. :D

Not really fail by the Aussie Compositor Team, they had Lloyd in the break as far as I can tell, must've pedaled back into the peloton though when he was dropped.

I didn't say it was error or your opinion was wrong, what you said was incorrect though and I pointed it out. As for your other stuff, coming from you it doesn't really mean much, it's not look you're the people's favourite.

I find it most amusing that ACF distinctly described the Tour of Britain as a breakaway race, looking at the results of the first stage here.

They clearly weren't: a simple English spelling correction of a common English language expression.
I think SW got you mixed up with Mr T.;)

Blimey, reminds me of that 2005, Nick Nuyen's ToB.
Half a dozen left in contention for the GC. (go Jacky Boobs, get those CQ points)
Hennie Haussler latern rouge and the one "recognized" GC rider a DNF.

90 riders left chasing a stage win.

Do not underestimate Reinardt Janse van Rensburg.

He's not really a climber, and being dropped in the finishing straight is ominous, but he was peaking for the Worlds this year, so should still be in good form.

Hmm, I thought he was a reasonable climber or was it his brother (?) that I was thinking of. But thanks for the info.

Will be interested to see how Nathan Haas gets over Arthurs Seat, reckon he could continue with the surprises. He has been a standout on the local circuit.

He'll be fine with the climb. It'll be more the battle to stay at the front and avoid splits on days before Arthurs IMO
