I'm seeing the prologue tomorrow starts quite late in the evening, especially for the favorites. Wouldn't that be a disadvantage with the shade setting in?

Should be offset by the cooler (relatively speaking) temperatures, right? It will be close to 40°C for the earliest starters.

I thought teams were somewhat free to assign riders to their allocated slots.

According to weather forecast both wind and temperature will be better after 20:00.

I guess the fata morganas wouldn't help either.

Roglic is the favourite, he (and Pogacar) are the best stage-racers on the planet until proven otherwise. However, the long TT (when he can put a lot of time into his rivals) is at the end of the race and a lot can happen before. It will be interesting to see Roglic vs Bernal clash. The Colombian will have a lot of opportunities to try to attack the Slovenian (who however will look to gain bonus seconds thanks to his great uphill finish). It will be interesting to watch how super-strong Ineos perform: IMO Carapaz (after difficult TdF and Olympics) will be there for support and stage hunting but Adam Yates can be a GC contender. A dark horse? Mark Padun. Picon Bianco is an interesting early test. Velefique and balcon de Alicante (short but explosive) can cause some important time differences in the first part of the race. Gamoniteiru is a new monster with arguably the longest double digit section ever used in a GT (14+ km), definitely one of the hardest climbes in cycling history. Too bad that Covadonga is just one day before (the GC action there may be subdued).
