Gva is not stronger than sagan at the moment. Sagan is so marked from quickstep and the rest that gva gets almost a free role

I like GVA and he always impresses but that doesn't make it fun to watch.

GW is usually not the spring race with the big memorable tactical exhibition but I think this year it was.

It's looking increasingly like Sagan got very lucky that GVA crashed out of RVV last year - otherwise he'd probably be monument-less. GVA is better tactically and the stronger sprinter from a small breakaway - Sagan will need a lot of luck to win again next week.

Nah, I agree what is being said earlier. Sagan is more marked than GVA somehow. Which makes racing easier for Greg. If he was the only favourite, he would have a much harder time doing these things

Sagan deserved that regardless of GVA

Uh...I like GVA too but that's a pretty big assumption, no?

what a race!!!! :surprised: much entertaining & racing all combined with a thrilling finale!!!

endless kudos to GVA & Keukeleire for taking the initiative, which paid off greatly. Sagan yet again on the wrong side of the race!! damn!!
it was all good !!! :)

He doesn't have the one glaring weakness that Sagan does though - the inability to sprint well after working hard in the last few kms. GVA can absolutely bury himself in the last 10km and still put out a great sprint - which means he doesn't have to be so cautious about closing gaps or using up resources. I think Sagan knows very well his big weakness and it's playing on his mind even more after MSR.

Keukeleire goes off contract at the end of this season. Fair to say that his pricetag has just "appreciated" considerably as will "market interest". Although an original signing with Orica, he is essentially another young rider that has been allowed to develop over time by the team; would not be expecting they will let him go easily.

No, GvA is stronger in these races and already was last year. He is the man to beat.

While I think Van Avermaet would have been at the front last year, it's impossible to conclude that. Maybe he would have stayed with Cancellara - maybe Cancellara would have bridged the gap to Sagan in that case. Maybe Cancellara would not have let Sagan and co. get away if Van Avermaet had also made the jump. It would have been a different race with Van Avermaet in the finish, but we cannot say how. Same with Flanders 2012.
