Well that clears it right up.

Good decision on Bjarnes part imho. Rules are rules, and if you want them respected you have to apply them.

I'm sure the rules are a lot easier to apply when riders in question are leaving the team and as the result one of other riders who is leaving the team gets less support.

Yes, but at the same time, it's a lot easier to break the rules when you're starting your own team next season so your immediate future is secured, and you don't have any important objectives ahead of you this year.

According to Sporten.dk "1 drink" is "a major bender".

now i wouldnt take sporten.dk as a good source, they could easily just read in here and on eb.dk and make a article from thin air. "our sources say it was a regular night out bender", if true all well and good, but yeah im going with a pinch of salt here :)

I didn't say the decision became harder because of all the teamstuff. But Bjarne doesnt come across as forgiving when people break rules.

So they are getting kicked off for consuming alcochol. Strange considering they were apparently doing this a lot more often in california.

But in California Saxo were just there to ride along - sort of. The Vuelta, on the other hand, they're supposedly trying to win... Makes a huge difference.

Well done by Bjarne, he did what he had to do. AS form is questionable, but I really question his commitment to his brother, going out for drinks. Shame on him.

I believe Bjarne is being a gentleman not telling the whole story, we have seen numerous times these guys drinking wine or champagne with their dinner. So IMO it definitely wasn't about one drink.

Bjarne losing control of these jackasses? Yes, but who cares, bunch of deadbeats.

This is IMO one of the differences between a TDF champion and a podium finisher. You would never catch AC, LA or Miguel Indurain doing this stuff. Devil is in the details.:D

So Poulidor was a drunk deadbeat and Anquetil was the most sober rider in the peloton? Interesting.

i am with riis on this one but doubt a drink is the whole story...

i have always said, berto better watch this closely as his and riis's temperaments are incompatible in my opinion despite both being excellent professionals.

all sounds very odd to expel two of your best domestiques for a tour you're trying to win.
something wrong with the usual fines, etc...?
definately some politicking going on between Riis n the Schlecks... or is there a third rider over there on the grassy knoll?

Two beers enough?

acording to sporten.dk (don't take it too seiously) Andy Schleck has explained that they only got two beers, and on the way home they met Riis on another bar. they went in and talked to him and apparently there was no problem then. The next day the mood changed though and he threw them out.

lance i know would allow one to two beers during his good tour years if he had over a minute on his rivals. i can say from experience 1 to 4 drinks has no effect on performance unless you have the constitution of a two year old girl in which case you wont win **** anyways. these guys are generally not pussies quite a few drink even during races much more common than you know. also who cares there grown men what is the world coming to?

Alcohol and the Vuelta

What a load of rubbish ! Rijs wins the Tour on drugs and kicks two of his top riders out for having a drink ! If they'd won a stage they'd have had champagne. I think its because they are leaving his team for next year.

Pathetic.

He must have found Andy looking like this in the morning

"We only had two beers, then walked into another bar for some reason I suppose".

Hahaha.

I've seen some riders slaughtered during a certain tour in my home town, rocking up on the start line green.

But that is the tdu.

Unless those two came back stumble-drunk, this is ridiculous. Did Rihs throw Landis out of the tour after his bout with whiskey?
