lance i know would allow one to two beers during his good tour years if he had over a minute on his rivals. i can say from experience 1 to 4 drinks has no effect on performance unless you have the constitution of a two year old girl in which case you wont win **** anyways. these guys are generally not pussies quite a few drink even during races much more common than you know. also who cares there grown men what is the world coming to?

My point is that we are missing something, one or two drinks was not the reason they got expelled.

With Frank in a position to win the Vuelta!! Wow. Riis does not seem to care for his riders.

Maybe a positive test for EPO or two and a quick way of satisfying UCI! This should be in the clinic though..

They went in beacause Bjarne was there.

They were on their way home when thay saw Bjarne on another bar and went in and said hello before they walked home. They had two beers and didn't enter the second bar to drink more but because Bjarne was there.

andy should be happy he did not end up like gusev..

nah, though damsgaard was with both then but riis is not bruyneel :p

@theyoungest, i agree that riis and berto fit well on the sporting level, but i was talking about their temperaments. both are headstrong and fiercely independent - a sparkle recipe if one of them just perceives being stepped on the toe.

Any sources on the cali drinking? I would love to read that.

I dunno that there is one... Personally I just replied that assumption with why the race situations are different. I actually don't give a hoot if there was drinking in Cali - I know that Bjarne sometimes allows a glass (as in one glass) of wine or bubbly after a stage win or the likes.

Maybe he was fine with the vuelta drink that night because he thought they had been given the ok by the DS and maybe he found out the next day they hadn't and so that was the broken rule...

In my mind it's a professional outfit and they have to follow orders and rules - sure looks like they have slacked a bit and are just waiting for the season to end.

Well, now we know who the sponsor of Team Schleck will be:

Yeah, we don't even have Riis's side of the story yet. Until we do, the purpose of this thread should be to make hilarious and outrageous jokes about the incident.

well if they were badly hungover from heavy drinking that is bad as there being paid to perform my boss does not care what i do the night before as long as i can do my job the next day effectively same for anything i guess. i think it is more just that bjarne is pist in general about team changes etc..

In that case.

The real story is that Bjarne heard that O'Grady and Junior spent the whole night with Johnny Walker, at which point Bjarne concluded they had been out binging as he had talked to them late at night in a bar. However instead of going to another bar after saying hi to Bjarne, Junior and O'Grady went to visit Johnny Walker and spent the night in his room *cue in huge bromance scene here*.
This also explains Walkers try at a breakaway attempt in the current cuelta stage. He was enraged that his newfound buddies was sent home, and wanted to make a statement :D

There is contradiction.

Cerberus said:
Actually there's no contradiction between those two articles. One reports that AS claims that they only drank 2 beers. The other reports that other (unnamed) sources say they drank a lot.

No the other one is a still Andy Schlecks words and the title (NEVER trust a title from this page) is made up. From Andys words in this article there could still be talk about two beers involved. I hate this site for their titles. They are always negative even though the contest of the article is positive.

all sounds very odd to expel two of your best domestiques for a tour you're trying to win.
something wrong with the usual fines, etc...?
definately some politicking going on between Riis n the Schlecks... or is there a third rider over there on the grassy knoll?

I agree, so the obvious conclusion is that Riis is not too interested in Frank winning the GC.

What? you think he is trying to ruin the Vuelta for Frank? well it certainly didn't help Frank win. And if it was unfair from Riis, then Frank gotta be a bit angry plus having lost two helpers. Okay, I see what you mean.

There's no way Andy would have done this had he been staying with Saxo..
You are probably right as well. But I might think that Andy is right about the two beers and that the decision might be a bit harsh then because of Frank. Andy would do everything to help Frank win. And Frank really wants to win.
