There is some bad blood there... Poor form by andy, and a little harsh from riis also.

This is all turning into an interesting rivalry... schlecks vs conta/riis

I presume the statement that Frank should attack came before Riis dismissed Andy & Stuart, in truth I believe that Frank stood little chance anyway but perhaps Riis is showing his bitterness with this move.

However, surely the night before the rest day would have been the right time for a couple of drinks ?_?

Andy was never going to assist Frank anyway, it's not the Tour or Ardennes so he doesn't have anything which closely resembles form.

Riis just wants to get back at the Schleck's for leaving his team, it's absolutely stupid to throw two great helpers out for drinking a little. It's not like they kept the whole hotel awake with a great drunk party.

It's not like one of them helped much.

And you can't kick out one and keep the other one in. Now that would be stupid.

You are probably right as well. But I might think that Andy is right about the two beers and that the decision might be a bit harsh then because of Frank. Andy would do everything to help Frank win. And Frank really wants to win.

It's hard to speculate about. What is too many drinks 3, 4 or maybe 5? or when does it gets to much? It sure sounds like a harsh decision, but also think Riis need to show he wont tolerate this kind of behavior. Seems like there's alot of unrest at the team atm. and guess he needs to show who's boss.

Think it's completely unprofessional and disrespectful of Andy, towards his team and not least his brother. Am sure Andy would be ever so understanding if it was his helpers in the tour who went out for drinks after the race. Andy should man up and honor his contract these last few months, then he can party and drink all winter for all I care..

"but officer...i only had two beers."

they broke team rules. would they have broken the rules if they weren't both already sucking and transferring next year?

probably makes no difference because for riis there is life after saxo bank and he has to keep discipline.

news flash: frank schleck would never have won the vuelta anyhow.

Unless those two came back stumble-drunk, this is ridiculous. Did Rihs throw Landis out of the tour after his bout with whiskey?

He was fine with it because he knew if Floyd didn't have a drinky winky he'd be shaking all over the road!

If you keep refilling your glass before it's completely empty, it counts as one drink.

From the time I spent in Europe, 1 Drink in Europe translates into 3 sheets to the wind in America.

I find it ironic that Riis kicks two riders out of the Vuelta for "breaking the rules". Riis was never kicked out of anything, now was he? ;)

If it's true they came back at 5:30 AM, then the best punishment would for them to have been to ride today's stage on the front. Nothing like 175K at 40K/hour in 35 degrees to bring some clarity to the situation... :D

Ehrm, according to some sources it appears that is closer to the truth than Andy's own words of "two beers"... Coming back to the hotel a 5.30 in the morning would either be a proper night on town a two veeeeeeeery slooooooooow and loooooooong beers.

...I am starting to wonder whether the Schleck rebellion was triggered because within the team they already knew that Contador was coming to the squad in 2011.

Now that's an interesting idea I'd not thought of. Or maybe Conti going to Saxo was not so much a done deal as it may have been just a recruiting process between Riis and Conti. That alone would ruffle the Schleck bro's feathers.

The first couple of weeks of the tour it didn't look like there would be a Team Saxo Bank Sungard next year?

What a load of rubbish ! Rijs wins the Tour on drugs and kicks two of his top riders out for having a drink ! If they'd won a stage they'd have had champagne. I think its because they are leaving his team for next year.

Pathetic.

Is there a piece of logic wedged in there somewhere? Your point is not, I hope, that since they haven't won a stage and so can't have (one glass) of champagne, they should instead be entitled to indulgence in brewsky (as they have been so good at not performing)?
