Server not found, gotta pay the fee for the DNS name.

Oh guess who runs it :D (mods this is internet freely obtained info, just :

its because it was off for a bit last night while more memory and extra core got stuck in, and in the process, made an error in the database table.

And dont know why you felt the need to post my postal address, but like you say, its freely available, well it shouldnt be, i just forgot to put privacy on.

Heads up, people.

For the past hour or so, I have no longer been able to access the forum in my usual way, that is with Firefox and Adblock - kept getting a '404 Bad request' error.

So, I decided to try IE with no Adblock, and here I am, with all the ads back in glorious color. The ones that started all this are now at the bottom of the page rather than between posts, which is a step forward. But, if I am forced to use IE against my will, or if I can only use FF without Adblock, then I'm outta here.

edit - nope, the intrusive adds are still between the first and second posts, as before.

second edit - it seems that whatever it is may be to do with my FF or my system rather than CN - further investigation now ongoing.

Even though absolutely nothing had changed on my system, the issue was solved by deleting all 'cyclingnews' cookies and restarting. Thanks to Joe from IT for his help!

I normally do not have that many problems with advertising, it is necessary to keep many site afloat and sometimes there are interesting products or deals, especially on cycling websites. In all it has never bothered me enough to install adblock and all and I will not install it solely for this website.

Another aspect of this is that fact that it is not even the ads themselves that is my main problem with the current situation, but what these ads resemble, the lack of regard for the forum, its members and the moderators from FP/CN

....yes, yes and yes !!!

Cheers

Don't blame the tools! :) This is probably happening because of disjointed cookies. Just clear your cookies and see if that fixes the problem. Firefox is actually trying to help you by playing a stricter game with the cookies and, more importantly, their origins.

EDIT: Now I see that was the cause of it. Didn't see your later post. CN's cookie origin had probably changed during the time before they expired on your computer.

Based on some of the info which didn't get posted I thought it was from another ex-member. But since you felt the need to acknowledge the info I know know that the mods are imitating the UCI in their secret rulings...

Anyway, back to the info, its freely obtainable if you knew it was possible to set it private why wasn't it? And in case you don't know its not really private, only to the layman, read the fine print in your DNS contract. Then there's the provider info if its from a different company.

Note to anyone setting up a website, don't use your own name, pick a friend, family member who doesn't even get on the internet to do it for you (you pay of course), much safer that way (for you).

I think what really p!sses people off is that your post can be deleted and you can get banned for posting off-topic cr@p in any thread, or clinic stuff in the non-clinic sections. On the other hand, we get in-thread ads which have absolutely nothing to do with anything I have ever seen discussed anywhere on the whole forum with the exception of the BoB thread, and we all know the history of that. Well maybe the chaos thread might qualify, but that is at least funny. It's a work of art, really.
