TeamSkyFans said:on the demo forum done yesterday there are three ads
doolols said:Funny - I don't see anyMaybe my ad blocker is blocking these, too?
TeamSkyFans said:it will be... which is why people like cn annoy the crap out of me. By going overboard they encourage people to install ad blockers.. which means that sites that rely on advertising (and deserve a few clicks here and there), sites like Steephill, Velowire and many of the other great sites and blogs end up losing out.
And my site as well. as I said in an earlier post we dont make much in advertising, but its enough to cover the server cost, domain renewals and sometimes chuck a prize in a fantasy competition. Peope installing ad blockers eventually means that people like me, steve at steephill, george at velowire and the rest end up having to pay for their sites out of their own pockets.. how long do you think that would last?
But guys like FP dont care.. If 10% or even 50% of people install adblockers they still get by just fine, in fact they probably even budget for it. but it screws everyone else over.
The moral of that story, is if you watch a video or view a race detail on steephill, click an ad afterwards, if you watch a livestream and theres an ad, click it, if you go use cyclingfever regularly click an add once in a while. It might help make up for all the visitors that have ad blockers installed..![]()

thnx again for some insight and info dim

Arnout said:I suspect for these kind of advertisements its also the page views that actually count. For the Google ads, as far as I know the actual clicks are important, but those are the small ones with only text as opposed to the colorful banners that scream buy me.
.
TeamSkyFans said:Cn generally have 3 ppc google ads showing. CN also have ATDM running as well which is one of the more aggressive cookie based advertisers (and are responsibe for most of the low quality adverts, russian brides, dating, mature dating etc ) - i have atdm blocked anyway, they are crap. Basically ad suppliers stipulate you cant use more than x amount of their ads on the page so cn and others sign up for a whole bunch of agencies so they can have loads. I just counted 3 google, 1 atdm on a page plus of course the in thread advertising..
Arnout said:To be honest I get mostly only KLM sales for the atdm ad, so it might be you
And well. I cannot say you should stay here krebs, but it would be sad to see this forum fall apart. I know a new one could be created, but things will never be the same. And this is, despite some drawbacks (mainly me going in the clinic and getting outraged), the best cycling forum in terms of user content, by far. Would be a shame to lose it.
krebs303 said:I think it's time for me to log out and stop posting for while. about 1000-2000 hits a day in Freeform/Chaos thread making money for the man who cares not for those who contribute the content.
TeamSkyFans said:Im all in favour of strike action. Calling a one day no-posting strike. Of course only 10% of people would stick to it, and half of those would form a virtual picket line going in threads and posting telling people not to post.![]()
Amsterhammer said:So true.
How about setting a deadline for an official reaction to our 'grievances'? How long has this been going on now? More than a week? Two weeks? Certainly long enough for some official bod to have found the time to write something here!![]()
