On a serious note I think it is possible for him to get up to at least 10 GT tour wins if he can maintain form for the next 3 seasons

My favorite part is he will actually race the other GTs. Not just the Tour. But yes, he should win a few more!

You can't compare these era's, if you have some knowledge of cycling you should know that.

You can't compare it, these days it's nigh on impossible to win cobbled classics, hilly classics, mountain stages, time trials and GTs.

Nice,I hope Alberto will ride at great level till at least 33/34.So Merckx is within a reach.But he will be best cyclist of all time if he wins Big Triple,like someone said there

But officially he only won 2 Tours, 1 Giro, 2 Vueltas We all know that's not true but that's what will be in the history books, I think it will be very, very difficult for Alberto to win 5 Tours, I mean he has maybe 2-3 years left, and he always is unlucky so he will probably win just one more :S

however bear in mind that i was responding to a poster who stated 'if alberto wins the 3 grand tours in one year he would become the greatest cyclist ever'

which i saw as being a little off the mark

hence my posting.....................if alberto was to have a palmares comparable with cycling greats

consider how hard it was for merckx and hinault to win so much....that's what made them legends

the triple would maybe not make him the greatest ever but it would certainly put him in contention for that title. It's just impossible for Alberto to win PR, RVV etc. Maybe he can win LBL or FW if he makes it one of his goals but I doubt it. And also don't forget Alberto lost a huge chunk of his palmares because of his ban, that never happened to Merckx

If they don't HAVE to invite him, I am not so sure they WOULD invite him.

alberto is a great tour rider indeed the best of our generation

but not on par with legends such as merckx or hinault

now if he was to win worlds road race milan san remo flanders roubaix liege lombardy etc then he would too be such a legend
