Overcompensation could be positive for him, being sick during the TdF is by far more difficult, TVG knows that.
What do you mean by overcompensation?

He should be putting the finishing touches to his preparation right now, so I'm worried he'll miss just that last bit to be competitive.

"Im not riding vuelta for gc"

"Rode my best numbers before the tour of 2013"

I can continue. If contador is really sick he would never say it besides a cold is nothing. But panic ;)

Sport is also a question of luck, if Alberto is sick now it's not bad either, his immune system may be better after this.

His brother Fran says he's affected by the air conditioning. Could be a lie cause it seems a bit too easy to just throw that to keep training.

If it's not a lie, then that's one more reason he shouldn't have left Livigno that early, where temperatures aren't as high.

If you noticed, he's not really enthusiastic on the social medias these last few days, hope not for bad reasons.
Good thing is that we don't have to wait long anymore to know.

i don't think he lies, because he wants the spot in Spain Rio squad. Landa showed up at national championship because he wanted to be in Rio squad. So does that mean Contador chances to be in Rio squad getting smaller?

Yeah, that's true, it may mean there's less chance he gets ill during the Tour, but if his form isn't where it needs to be because of this illness, it doesn't really matter.

LOL.

He has done just that - "put the finishing touches on his preparation" - that is precisely why he is missing the Spanish championships.

LOL.

@EuroHoody Is it possible as Velonews to contact Contador or Team Tinkof for a more specific explanation? 'Health problems' is rather vague.

I've asked-- could be allergy problems, they're wicked right now in Spain, and Contador's suffered from them before

Let's hope so.
Stupid pollen - will I have to do a permanent rain dance during the Tour?

Current weather patterns probably looking good for a much less hot and humid tour than last year. Keep your fingers crossed jet stream doesn't flip

Was there a single GT since 2012 before which people here didn't come up with excuses before the race even started? Pollen, bit of a cold so will miss the race that could affect his preparation, not in too shape because trying to peak for the tour, not in peak shape because rode a giro, some dirt in a knee. You guys are absolutely hilarious

Yea sure Spain is gonna reject Contador from the Olympics, got another good joke? LMAO

1. Valverde is the outstanding olympics favourite
2. Purito will be the plan B with a move at the last climb
3. Samu Sanchez as a olympic champion with place 6 and 4 at Fleche and LBL this year must be save there
4. Jon will start the TT so he is also fix for the RR

So its all about the 5th spot in the team. And there are superb helpers like Erviti, (for the first 180-200km), Castroviejo, LL, Jesus/Jose Herrada in the lottery.

So i don't see Landa nor Contador in the selection. What role should they play? Helpers for Valve? Sprinting for themselfs in the final from a small group which gone from far out against possible guys like Chavez, Ulissi or Costa?

Spain have to control the race for a long time, with the outstanding favourite in the team. So i think you need at least 2 helpers to controll all the moves in the first 200k's. Guys like Castroviejo for example. So Contador makes no sense for me.

No matter what the parcours is, this purito is never more useful than Contador.

And Contador is the best spanish ITT, so he should always ride the ITT thus road race too

If Contador would be willing to work for Valverde (or vice-versa) yes, he would be very useful.

I'm pretty sure Alberto was sure for the Rio team but if Minguez wanted everyone in contention for a spot to ride the Nationals, he may have screwed up.

I think Contador would be be used to try an attack from further out, which would be expected to fail and ultimately set up Valverde who would be happily following wheels. Contador is a better bet for this than Rodriguez as he's shown far better form than the latter this year and is known for his long range attacks. Contador has also shown willingness to play this role for the team at the WCs previously.

Fleur acts like contador is a 10 year old kid who can't think for himself, same with the nationality of his teammates.

"Oh no he has teammates who are from the east, contador will feel so sad during the tour, please don't do it, alberto needs southern riders"

"Contador just screwed up his olympic selection"

The guy won 9 GT's and survived Armstrong.

He'll be fine and he sure as hell don't need you questioning every decision he or his team made and how it's apperently made by a 10 year old ;)

I think it largely depends on how selective that climb turns out to be. After a hard Tour and a hard race, I think the final result may look more like a GT mountain stage ending on a descent then a one day race.

Welcome to the forum mate, and of course Contador was lying his ass off. It's a good sign though ;)
