We don't know how the crash in the tour still affected him and we don't know how this crash 3 days ago affected him.
Yet he was still the 2nd best yesterday at lagos, yet people talk like he ended in the grupetto![]()

Oh my God! :surprised: It takes a hell of a rider to finish 8th on a climb 1min after winner, while he is actually 2nd strongest!Don't know whether to cry or to laugh

It's rather simple, but no point discussing anything with someone who can't understand such a simple thing
I think they ran out of time after he had finished complaining about sprints, crashes, the parcours, power meters and injuries.Lexman said:did nobody during the press conference today ask a question about his team for next year?

You still can't accept reporters ask questions on those issues and Alberto answers them?DFA123 said:I think they ran out of time after he had finished complaining about sprints, crashes, the parcours, power meters and injuries.Lexman said:did nobody during the press conference today ask a question about his team for next year?
That's true, I'm a bit frustrated with how he's behaved these last few months. Wish he'd just get his head down, let his riding do the talking and animate the race as we know he can.Valv.Piti said:DFA123 said:I think they ran out of time after he had finished complaining about sprints, crashes, the parcours, power meters and injuries.Lexman said:did nobody during the press conference today ask a question about his team for next year?
DFA, you are being a bit more harsh on Contador today than you usually are.
So still joint 2nd strongest yes?Valv.Piti said:You have so be incredibly tactically inept for that to happen.
He was as strong as Froome, not more.
I noticed that too. Irrational hatred is what I call it. Basically my attitude when it comes to FroomeValv.Piti said:DFA123 said:I think they ran out of time after he had finished complaining about sprints, crashes, the parcours, power meters and injuries.Lexman said:did nobody during the press conference today ask a question about his team for next year?

LaFlorecita said:He's never won all the time. I don't think any fan expects him to win every race and of course it seems natural he will win less as he gets older. Does that mean his fans aren't allowed to be disappointed when he doesn't win?HelloDolly said:I hope Contador rides on...I hope he wins this Vuelta ...I hope he comes back next year and wins the Giro/Vuelta double
He is the rider I like the most of the big 3 ...he is the more human , transparently flawed , he wants it most ..prepared to put it on the line ....all these endear him most to me
But if he wins this GT he will do it as an underdog as he is not at the level of Froome or Quintana.
He will want some luck and alot of cjonas
It could happen but probablity is low. In the meantime can his fans who demand respect for him also respect that while he will always entertain he will not always win anymore
As for 2009 versus today ...the sport and performance is continully improving.. Hinault was a great champion but maybe (I don't know) Indurain at his best might have left Hinault at his best behind

Miburo is overconfident, I don't think he honestly believes every single thing he posts. Ramon Koran who threatened to "stop supporting" Alberto if he doesn't retire is just a fake fan who's only ever said negative things about Alberto and positive things about Froome while pretending to support him.HelloDolly said:Do you wat to read back over this thread
The melodrama , gnashng of teeth, hype, attacking of opponents , declarations of how Contador will win hands down, the declarations of depression and desperation when he doesn't win ...the threats to leave the forum, stop watching cycling, etc..the anxiety , the spin ...its is all there to read ..and you say the above ?? :surprised:

As long as you guys are reheating unending rest-day arguments, how do you get to nine? I mean, if you're going to give Conti the '10 Tour and the '11 Giro moral victories, you surely must give The Chicken the '07 Tour, right?LaFlorecita said:Sorry but saying Contador (who won NINE GTs) was just lucky in all of those wins because Armstrong and/or Froome at the peak of their powers would have annihilated him is what I consider the definition of senseless irrational hating. I think I have the right to demand more respect for this CHAMPION.

Those are two posters, you can hardly blame that on all fans.![]()

In any case this thread reminds me of the Nibbles thread at the second Giro rest day. So much doom and gloom. This race isn't over.
Seems a little arbitrary. But sports somewhat arbitrary, and on must try to be respectful of people's beliefs. So in this view, Lance still, has 7, Floyd 1 (he did make the podium), Femke is the European U23 Champion and Rosie Ruiz won the 1980 Boston Marathon? Or is this more on a case-by-case strength-based judgement, but with the podium shot as a sine qua non?Angliru said:I believe it goes like this: one has to actually have finished the event and stood on the podium as the winner at the end for there to be any argument for them to have that event recognized as "their's". While Rassmussen had what seemed like an insurmountable lead at the time his team yanked him, he did not finish the event.

Don't agree, Froome psychologically is strang and just rides to his limit ignoring every one. If Alberto beat Chris its physical not psychologicalKyoGrey said:Unlike some other Great riders in modern cycling, Contador showed unparalleled mental toughness and tactical abbility to overcome riders with the same strength as him during races.
A peak Contador (lets say 2009, 2011 or 2014) would have annihilated psychologically a peak Froome, driving him to commit errors, in the same way a peak Larry Bird would have abused a peak LeBron James.
Note that the comparison has to be made assuming same quality in team.
Miburo said:That accelaration of quintana after Contador attacked, that one destroyed Contador. If Quintana pushed for 2 more sec he was done then already.
But yea i'm convinced Contador was better than Froome sunday, don't forget that Froome was being pushed by teammates too.
That attack by Quintana, I'm amazed Alberto managed to follow. Compare it to Alberto's attack just a few seconds earlier. I guess Alberto didn't go all out because his legs seemed so heavy and he followed Quintana's attack which had way more spark.Miburo said:That accelaration of quintana after Contador attacked, that one destroyed Contador.
