this performance by valverde is clinic's stuff. I never see the guy so strong in my life

Because you never saw Pantani, Armstrong and Indurain in their prime.
I don't understand this comment. What do the three have to do with Valverde?

Bad english!
Mine or yours? :D

Mine of course... 'I never see a guy...' that's what i read. My bad.

But your post about the portuguese people being stupid, was awful. Sorry bro.

I think he may race La Vuelta if he retires at the end of the year.
And I don't think he'll retire :) He'll go for Il Giro next year. I'm already looking forward! I hate the Tour :)
you wouldn't be saying that if Bertie wins the tour
There's nothing fun about the Tour, it's a predictable, corporate money-making machine. I wouldn't like this race even if Alberto won it 20 times. But believe whatever you want ;)

PS I hate the "Bertie" nickname. I blame Kirby for getting that en vogue.

It's super easy to distinguis between "I like that Alberto wins the Tour" and "I like the Tour"

That said, Imma quit the Bertman crap.
Yeah, Bertman is even worse than Bertie :p
I call him Berti sometimes (usually when my fat fingers misspell Berto on my phone) but that's alright. Bertie or Berty, pronounced the British way, is terrible
Also hate when Dutch people call him Bert or Bertje

Yeah, Bertman has too many associations for me with a certain tennis player who's too reknown for losing any big match.

I kinda like Bertje for a certain Hans Teeuwen sketch though.

He has a bit of an obsession with the TDF these days, but he got his dog in 2008, it was by far his biggest victory at that point. He also had two other dogs, one named Etna after the volcano (obviously) and another named Gorla after the Subida a Gorla which is a prestigious amateur race he won in 2001.
https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subida_a_Gorla quite a few famous names on that palmares

I also think Berto's age is showing. He has really turned into a diesel climber. On the other hand, his numbers are still very high. Maybe he's just unlucky that the others have stepped up their game as well.
sounds perfect for the Sky train

But really its still very early and a lot of riders are still missing the big kick from their legs

"It was a relatively simple stage because we only had the final climb, which was hard, but also a little open and with headwind," said Contador. "The roads were good, and it was relatively easy to go in the wheels, and that has made it so that everyone arrived very fresh at the final. Although the climb had steep grades, the differences have not been as big as they would be in other conditions.

"My feelings were not bad, maybe I was a bit stuck and I lacked a little bit in the end to be able to fight for the victory. I have arrived ahead, but I didn't have that final punch I would have liked to win."

"Movistar played it well," continued Contador. "They have done it perfectly: they had two riders in the top four so I had to also control Marc Soler, and that did not allow me to be able to watch Alejandro. Then Alejandro attacked hard from behind and made enough room to reach the finish.

"But I'm super happy. It's true that we couldn't crown the work, but I'm very satisfied with my performance. The training and preparation are in the right direction, and that makes me motivated and eager."

Maybe, but for Alberto, the difference with earlier years is huge.

Obviously, but you don't have to go that far. See 2014. I have even put here a video from his performance at TA that year.

In fact, in 2012 he also showed a much lesser kick than in the previous years.
Maybe that is related to him having a much lower cadence since his ban.

Seeing how Valverde was pedalling, Contador looked really spent. He seemed to be on his limit. It can't be the age thing, considering Valverde is older than Contador. I'm a bit disappointed, compare to Froome who just started his first race in Europe (as oppose to Contador), his form is still below Froome. I don't know how much he can improve, to be quiet honest. He typically has a good from on his first season. His last race will be Paisco before he takes holiday.

I wonder when he said his number his high, how high is the upper threshold that he can hold for longer time? I watched Froome reeled him by spinning his leg, he must already pass his threshold and stay there for long time, to still manage to have a kick.
