no catalunya?

that's surprising. . .

I guess he wants to ride in Corsica, to see the Tour stages roads. and catalunya ends on the criterium international week end

although not a "true" stage race, Criterium International taking place in Corsica is a nice one allowing some riders who are good at ITT and climbing to show off. It would be a great race to have won for Alberto.. So I am glad he is going

I agree, although his pollen allergy could be a problem. Just like last time he entered that race, IIRC.

Some importants points:

-He wants to start the season slowly to peak at TdF and show his best there
-At 30 he can't improve his explosiveness what it's at max, but is more and more reliable and regular, so he can keep threshold for longer spells of time.
-He can improve his TT, this year he doesn't go to the wind tunnel but little fixes of his position on the bike.
-His test results show better results than those at end of 2008 (I guess it's a specific test not done every year and the journo knows)

Looks like he wants to try 2 GTs in 2013!!!! I hope he doesn't go for the Giro; save it for le Tour. And if there is enough in the tank afterwards go to the Vuelta!!

Bertie vs. Wiggo at Tirreno?

Double post, but here goes.... Looks like Contador and Wiggins will both be racing Tirreno this year.

Some of the walls in Tirreno are probably too short for Bertie and too steep for Wiggo. May be too early in the year for Bertie, but he'll have a lot to prove vs. Wiggo, who should be at his 95% (if like last year).

Thoughts?

Too early for Alberto? No sir, you must be mistaken. Alberto wins the whole year through. And yes Alberto is better on longer climbs but he is more explosive than Wiggo so he should beat Wiggo there. I don't know if there's a tt though. That could give Wiggins the edge.

Yes, will be interesting to see how Wiggo copes. Shane Sutton says he's working on Brad's ability to go with short surges on climbs. (Can't find the link; sorry.)

Also, there's Evans. Think he had a great Tirreno the year he won the Tour. If he's determined to set right what went wrong last year, I hope he's in the mix too.

That's what I'm hoping.

(Ha, ha, Hitch, who can forget "Purito Froome", too, at least if he's got a team then. Also hilarious to see Sagan drop Nibali on one the Tirreno walls, when he was riding for him. A word or two may have been spoken there then between the Albanian/Eastern European and Sicilian mafias afterwards. "Hey, who's gotta the betta stuffa...?" :D).

My immediate thought is that Bertie has diiddly, nada, nothing, nowt to prove Vs Wiggins as it has never been and probably never will be a genuine discussion between the two. But I get your post and it may be interesting to see who wants to lay something down in TA.

Nothing verbally, just the sporting pride of two Tour champions, pride of legs, who want preeminence on the road, candidates for the same crown again.

Brad will be the interloper, the pretender to his throne, in his eyes, I'm sure, just as he is to many on this forum. These types of guys never rest on their laurels: it's never enough. It's how they got there, among other things. Constantly surprised how absurdly competitive champions in any sport are in anything. It's not our mindset.

Hope to see the race, how important it is to them, as you say.
