But for the Andorra day when he was sick, it would have been a 3 way battle between him, Nibali and Froome for the GC.

He was able to save Nothing in this race, there is no races in his future. He left it all out road and goes out in a most deserving way!

I don't think he is being forced into anything, he seems happy to say goodbye. I think he wants to enjoy life after cycling.

I have Said it before, but it's truer than ever: Contador is the greatest racer of this era. In fifty years, he'll be mentioned alongside Coppi, Merckx, Hinault and Pantani.

Spot on. Just like Pantani, Contador might not be as successful as Coppi, Merckx and Hinault (although he is still way more successful than Pantani btw) but he will become a legend anyway. The one guy who was never afraid of attacking and wasn't satisfied with anything but the win. I didn't like him when I was younger but especially the way he rode when he wasn't the strongest climber of the peloton anymore is something I'll never forget. What an ending for an incredible career.

You should get used to something different.
It's like decaffeinated coffee ... of course there are big cyclists but none with these physical and mental qualities and this ability to attack in the race.

The end of an era.

Finished the days of Coppi, Anquetil, Meckx and Ocaña, Hinault, Indurain and others.
Now he says goodbye one of the most spectacular and leaves a vacuum impossible to replace.

Correct LaFlo. Retiring was totally his own decision and he seems Very content with his decision. I'll bet he even has some champagne tonight and bacon for breakfast!

This must sound overly pessimistic...but reasonable none the less. When I think of every current danger to Sky in GTs they target, the brave ones are mostly not strong enough, while the strong one(s?) is/are not brave enough. Hope there won't be too long of a lull in GT excitement.
Well, Alberto is more than just strong and brave anyway, there is something else that is so special about him that will take some time to replace.

I think he was realistic. In gt's I don't think there will be life after contador, maybe when sky retire

He's rich, he's going out on a high, he doesn't really have unfinished business. I don't think he feels any need to continue living like a monk.

What class. Only negative thing to say about it is it probably lowers the chances of him announcing he will ride the Giro some time in January going out with such a win. Oh well.

GTs will definitely be a worse watch now.
