Maybe it Birch tree pollen?

Back in 2010 he suffered massively from allergy in CI, which was at the end of march. The birch season usually begins to wear off in end may-beginning of june, but if it was late this season that might have still been high in Dauphiné

http://velonews.competitor.com/2010...ening-stage-at-criterium-international_109578

"Double Tour de France champion Alberto Contador endured a painful start to the Criterium International on Saturday when he suffered an allergy attack during the opening stage"

Birch is not a common tree, and in July no problem with that even late season as this one. Maybe affected him at Dauphine? it is possible, in the Tour is impossible.

When he talk he is not worried about that, so...

Yep, there is no pollen (IIrc) that has a high season all the way from March (where he suffered badly in 2010) till July Tour. And there is to my recolection no grass pollen in march. And as he says he usually dont have any problems during the Tour. So overall I wouldnt be worried about his pollen problems (unless he is allergic to several types of pollen of course).

I have pollen allergies myself (probably 95% of all the possible allergies) and normally I have no problems in July. This year on the other hand I'm still suffering from it heavily. Sometimes my allergies start in march/april but this year it only started early june. So it is definetaly possible that AC still suffers from it. No idea how bad it is ofcourse in southern-France

But, do you think a guy that has won a lot of races from February to July through his career, and just one time, in march, said something about allergies, has really allergy problems??

I really doubt it.

But if it was the case, it should be very little problem with him, nothing similar to you.

This is the same website that in 2011 put Frank Schleck as facourite for the tt heavy paris nice saying that he would win it if he wanted, but then said that Samuel Sanchez lacks the time trialing skills to compete.

Absolutely laughable, who wrote that rubbish?? Airstream or a Teletubby??

Ridiculous, we should let cycling journos pass an IQ test first before allowing them to write articles

The old BBC boards were brilliant Zam, it's where Just Cycling sprang from when they shut the pre-606 boards down ( we copied some of the best stuff into JC). They now have a list of watchwords that autotrigger the censors. Almost like a police state on the Beeb these days!!

OMG!!! What a hoot; guess he rode them all off his wheel and made a wrong turn...ROTFL!

"According to today's L'Equipe newspaper, Alberto Contador got lost during his first training ride in Corsica, leaving the team in panic.
The Spaniard apparently got lost in the hills above Porto Vecchio and the team was unable to find him or contact him for a while. The team gave him a two-way radio to ensure he did not get lost again."

This time you are right. it is something people dont talk in Spain, but I have been reading and he fears allergies, and he use to avoid April and May for that reason.

It seems he even told Indurain in Tourmalet, in the Tour, that the allergies were killing him.

But, he won that Tour.

And he has won in April.

Alergies could make fail some say, but if other days there is not allergy, you are ok again. You dont get more tired, just cant breath, as far as I know, at least Landa told that to a friend in Basque Country; I fell great, but, couldnt do more in that moment, couldnt breath ok couse the allergy.

Quite agree except with Valverde, he is one favourite. And they put second Hesjedal, but with just two stars... he deserve four.

Contador could have four as well...but, it is ok.:D

Hay Fever/pollen type allergies can be murderous. We have vast swathes of Oilseed Rape around us just now, I'm throwing anti-histimine down my neck like they were smarties!

Contador had an insane W/Kg on that climb. I don't wanna go in clinic but Froome will never get that or he will never be allowed since that clearly indicates something that will make sky look real bad.

Slap on your face, LOL SKY can scientifically revolutionize training, so can SKY push the W/Kg envelop. And all those W/Kg is only speculation, nobody(at least no official organization) really use them as a standard test. Wait for jaw-dropping performance from AC or Froom, I am ready!
