Let's not get to depressed. The race is still far away. You know the sudden onset of superhuman abilities of Mr. Froome could as well vanish overnight. You know, Porte can't get the kryptonite cause he's riding the Giro, maybe Nibs will crash on a wet descent and Nairito could catch a cold a la Wiggo.

I am not depressed, I was trying to explain the point Hitch was making :p

It was more about the final than the 'whole' day. It's not often you see someone lead the last 2km and win the sprint.

bad day...

Sanchez has always been one of the best sprinters of the GC riders. Evans is probably the other one. Sanchez was just smarter and has a better kick than Fuglsang. Even when sprinters are tired they can still produce in the final 200 and as everyone has said Fuglsang did most of the work.

Why the heck is the last 1/2 page about Fulsgang???? This is the Contador thread.

IMO early in 2014 we will know if Alberto will be a contender or not.

Just to derail the thread further :p, Fuglsang have an awfull finish in all situations. Unless he gets away he is done. Its not so much that he is slow in a sprint (he is) but that he has no savy. He simply does not know how to succed in a finish.

agreed. This thread is for the other 5-10th on the gc contender :p

Anyways, I predict that Contador will improve next year, and win some stages/races.

My prediction is that Sky & Froome will have their work cut out next year. Nibali, Contador & Quintana if he's participating & Andy if he's on form are going to be the key rivals and may form an alliance against Froome. Naturally if the Froome from Ax3 is there then it is going to be difficult but he's showed enough weakness in the Mountains in the third week that it may come down to the final timetrial

Riders rarely have the same form the next season. None of the GT winners of 2011 and 2012 stood on another GT podium the seasons afterwards. It would surprise me if all of Froome, Quintana, Horner and Nibali will have the same form as they had this year. And some 'disappointments' of this season such as Wiggins, Hesjedal, Henao, Schleck and Contador could have much better years if they have a good winter, and don't suffer from illness and other reasons you get behind on your training.

All I'm trying to say is to wait for the first races of 2014 and then gauge the favourites form. Says a lot about the podium of le Tour. Every rider who wore yellow in Paris over the last five editions won one or more WT stage race(s) in the spring.

Good point
Don't forget about Evans:D

I wonder, did you two understand hitch's post?

Yeah, it was pretty straightforward.

I just don't agree with it. Unlike y'all, I think Quintana has an actual (small) chance to beat Froome. I don't think Contador does. At all. Like... zero chance.

I hear Pentacycle, but I don't think it's realistic to think that Contador will bounce back enough to have a shot, however small.

I think Valverde would be considered the best sprinter among the grand tour gc contenders.

Yes of course. On the flat sprints he is miles ahead. Sanchez would be probably next best and Evans. Rodriguez on the hills.
