Well he is no. 15 on the individual rank with 252 points, so while he has performed badly this year (compared to his former level) it is still a lot of points for the team ranking.

That said, the team would have benifited more from this decision last year than this year. However, it might very well help them in their search for a new co-sponsor as this means they will be quite sure that they wont end up in a situation like last year

Indeed, it was the first race that his points would count and he was prepared to do it. Now he is much more likely to say 'to tired' after the Tour.

i think y'all are confusing uci wt team points, with something valuable like money.

Saxo made wt in 2013. They will make wt in 2014 and with guys like majka, kreuziger, rogers they will make wt in 2015.

Contador did not need to do vuelta to make that happen.

Think it depends what sort of Contador we see. It's not bad though. Fewer TT milfsahould be an advantage to him, which is ironic because in past years it was probably the opposite.what do you think?

I agree that it depends on his form. I think the TT on the penultimate day is a major disadvantage though.

If he is on the same form as this year, i don't think the route really matters. He will finish outside the top 5 either way.

Hopefully he returns to his 2011/2010 self, although to be honest i somewhat feel that is very unlikely.

Can't see him putting any time into Froome in the mountains and we know he wont get near him in the TT either. Bertie's only hope may be Froome has a disaster on the cobbles and loses minutes.

The only thing I have left to pin hope on was that it was a genuinely bad year for him. We have seen Boonen, Evans etc written off in previous years then come back, so hopefully

I would love to see even just one more GT annihilation from him...

As always it depends on the legs and the fire within. Early in the season we will see where he stands.

The parcours do lend themselves to some surprise attacks but those stage are in the first 1/2 of the race. Are there any stages like the Vosges ones late in the race? I haven't finished looking at all of it yet.

Less ITTs suit him, however not the length of the one. The not to high or long mountains suit him now. Wow who would have believed that 2 years ago...

I do not have any hope that he will perform well (by his standards) so anything else will be above expectations. Maybe some flashes of the old brilliance will become apparent
