I think he will make it! He survived at least 2 worse moment in his life.Life threatening injury and unfair ban (thats what he thinks,I dont want clinic talk).

Also don't forget that he is the guy who stood up against Armstrong and his henchmen bullying almost all alone at Astana.

Confirmed: tibial plateau fracture, but he will NOT undergo surgery. Damn. He'll be out for long.

We displease he can't ride Vuelta but for him i think it's better: he will have more recover and will be ready for next season.:)

Now I'm reading it's a fissure and he'll be off the bike for only 15 days.... Let's hope that's true!!!

It appears the fissure is directly on the top of the tibia... Which means that surgery would only do more damage.

Only 15 days? If that's true he can win the vuelta.

I'm already over it. Get HYPED :D

Froome and Contador are furious and ready to battle.

As a huge Conta fan. I'm gutted/sad to see those photos. Dude was going to dynamite this tour! And he knows it. He was going to give the fans what they have been waiting for. Alot of hard work and this is how it goes. Dam!

This was his words from the hotel room. He summarized the situation what was there for us to see in a calm and sensible way. From the look of it he handles it well. Also recognising that this is cycling.

Yesterday we wondered when or where he was going to blitz. Today if there is going to be a surgery or not. Cycling is a lot like life itself.

But as AC fans. What I think he would want us to do. Is conduct ourselves with the same class he does. No need to bash Nibs or who ever else wins this tour. We tip our hat to them and come back stronger. As AC did after last years tour.

I have criticised Astana in a typical fanboy-fashion (to add the hype) as a mean to spice up this monumental duel. There was not to be but i must say that slowing down and controlling the tempo like they did for their former captain was class.

I will still watch the tour because I love the sport. But it has lost a lot to me.

I have mixed feelings for this. Sure, the love for the sport is there but it is temporary broken (yet, intact). The rest of the Tour will (to me) work as a reminder of what "could have been". Not just because Alberto didn't won but because of the expected drama, attacks, thrills when the best gladiators goes mano a mano. It takes two to tango and when the best tango-dancers aint around, the art itself gets affected negatively.

We've lost Andy, Chris and now Alberto within a week. I simply cant work myself up for the rest (although i wish).

From I understand he crashed once. His bike was broken, as has been mentioned either in this thread or the actual thread for the stage (can't remember which), when the Tinkoff team car carrying the bikes attempted to squeeze by the Belkin team car on a narrow road. I believe the bike fell from the car and was run over by either the Belkin car or another race/team vehicle (or something like that).

Edit: So many different versions. I'm inclined to believe he crashed once and as someone mentioned, when Roche came upon him after giving him his bike, Contador had pulled over to confer with the medical staff of the Tour as they weren't there immediately after the crash occurred.

It occured to me that it is not impossible that he crashed second time (first fall would be hard one during riding one-handed and hitting pothole, and ruining his bike) descending on Roche's bike on the spot we saw him sitting on the ground and being treated by medical staff and replacing shoe.

But, even if he crashed again it must have been not very serious fall. Or maybe he just stopped because of broken cleat and bleeding and that made people thinking he fell there.

The Roche piece is probably the most convincing account of what happened - he was right there after all, and he gave Contador his bike.

The article also brings home how grim something like that is for the support riders, particularly ones like Rogers, Roche or Majka who could be targeting other races for themselves. Ok, they don't get a broken bone, but they do also have a big part of their season mucked up. It's not like Sky where Porte was held in reserve, TS were all for Contador.

Let's not get too optimistic, after 15 days he can get on the bike again, but probably won't be able to do heavy training yet.

He was in really good form, that won't disappear to a big extent in 2 weeks.

Now I'm reading he can start training lightly after 7-10 days!!!! I'm guessing on home trainer, low gear & relatively low cadence as to not to put too much pressure on the knee... It sounds good!!!

Contador to join Froome in turbo training madness on route to the Vuelta battle.

So, like yesterday, there seems to be conflicting information coming out:

Mikkel Condé v2.0 ‏@mrconde 4m
Alberto Contador says he won't need surgery. However "the doctors have told me that it's almost impossible I will be in the Vuelta". Shame!
