20 days after my crash in the Tour, I downloaded the file and could see the exact speed of the fall, 76,8 km/h!!!

then in hindsidght, he was very very luck to suffer just a cut and fracture tibia. It could have been worst. Like Beloki, the crash ended his carreer. At this point, I'm hoping he can recover well. Don't care if he can take part on vuelta or not. If he can get back to his tour shape or better, that's all matters, expecially after his crash.

Au contraire. That Monte Bondone climb was one of the greatest performances of the last 15 years.

The best thing was that he smiled during his effort. Those were incredible performances. Also San Carlo 1820 vm/h he waited for Piepoli.
But 1780 vm/h on an almost 20 km climb with close to 8% average gradient is at least on par with the best Lance Armstrong. Lance would have lost against that Basso in '06. Almost on Ullrich level in TT's and climbing much faster than in '05. It really was Basso entering his prime.

If he is fully healed and able to ride 5 hours without problems a week before the Vuelta, he could give it a try. Training under race conditions. I'm sure he still has a decent shape and could podium. He was off the bike for less than 3 weeks.

Ullrich was far from his best though at the Giro.

Yes that's true. But he was TT'ing better than in 05 where he lost 1:30 on Ullrich and 1:55 on LA in the last 50+ km time trial.

Now I don't want to seem "knows everything better" but the wind changed into headwind and I remember that Giro like it was yesterday. The commentators mentioned it.

Now let's close off topic.

maybe try and actually have a possibility to win vuelta is another thing. I can't bear another scene of contador got dropped in the mountain by froome and quintana. Better come with expectation of winning the stage and go for breakaway or I prefer he goes to Lombardia, tour of britain. Not tour of beijing please. Another pico something clen in his blood, the UCI and WADA will burry him for good.

Actually, probably not. Even WADA has loosened their assesment of clenbuterol positives with some forgiveness for geographical considerations. See Saxo-Tikoff guy who used to ride for Sky. I can't remember his name.

It would be interesting to see if the Tour of China would ever pay Contador's appearance fees.

In the beginning of 2014, I would never have imagined a Contador heading to the Vuelta and the field being stacked the way it is.

I doubt it. contador just spent 2 years ban with the same problem. It won't be as slam dunk as Rogers this time. So I really do hope that they don't send him to Beijing. I wonder if TS now will just go for stage hunting. Kreuziger with god knows when he'll be back, could be as early as next year. Majka is done after US procyling, Roche and rogers they both got Giro + Tour leg, I'm sure their season is winding down. I guess, it's time for the no name TS boys to shine.

yes but that was last week. i want something from today :)

Lot of contradicting info going on at the moment on Twitter, today someone said "According to radio Marca, Alberto will resume long trainings tomorrow" I can't find anything though, then someone else popped up with news I don't even know where did he get that from, and said no Vuelta, no WChamps for Contador. He is entirely focused on 2015 so.... Still not single statement from Alberto himself. I don't know what to believe.

The only thing i know for sure is that AC really wants to ride the vuelta and he'll do anything to get there.

I'm assuming Berto would want to ride the Vuelta. Because he might be sitting on the best form he has had in a very long time.
If so knowing him. Being the racer that he is ("2nd is no good"). He thinks he can put another GT on the palmares. If his pre-tour numbers are through the roof he wants to win NOW!

Lidia Fluhme @lidiafluhme · 30 jul.
Second @albertocontador sighting in three days. Monday: Ardena-Marchirolo. Today: Monte Bar.

I really wonder if all this is true, i like the speculation :)

Seems like the options are running between "full (hour/mountain) training" or "focused on 2015, wont participate in either Vuelta nor World Champs." It is maybe true that the later statement stems from his emotional tweet in July which the official news sadly took up as definitive. It is really the last official update since later July.

If he is on the bike on the other hand, doing full hours and having good sensations, then there are no reason to believe that a Vuelta is not possible. And i take the silence as Alberto going through hell and high water to make it happen.

Being able to ride your bike does not mean you are ready to win a GT. I think he will be out for the season. It's a shame, because he was in the best form since 2011?!

Those in the know compared this AC to his 2011-level. Could even been back to 2009 given those hints we've got after his retirement.

I didn't say that. But being able to ride your bike (assuming the word is true, and he did a little confimation about this) is a step further to train properly. And how much he has lost between the Tour and now only he himself nows. Even (if) he "only" comes up to 90% of his ability i think he will go for it.

Early days yet but one would believe there would be a definitive statement from him and TS regarding his participation.

He should race only if he is 100%.
Last thing he needs now is to be defeated (by anybody, but especially by Froome).

Be still my heart :)

At the same time I want him good enough to go with Froome and Nairo. Otherwise I'd rather he not ride. The Vuelta doesn't allow for riding into shape, there are tough stages early.
Tottaly agree with Carols here.Vuelta is not ideal race to start at.
