About time they stop carrying Paulinho around that's what. He had one single moment of decenct riding in the last 4 years and has been dead weight since then.

Its pretty obvious why Paulinho is in the team. He does a job full stop. Nothing more is asked.

Badly. He's now usually the first to drop and cannot handle the slightest slope anymore. Others could take his role and do a better job. The only obvious reason is that he is second best friend to Contador, after Jesus.

tens razão, eu como português gostava que o sérgio fosse uma mais valia para o contador mas parece que já não consegue impor ritmos altos nas montanhas

I think the fact that Sky were getting to the end of climbs with 4 or 5 riders dropping almost everyone " wiggos tour year was just bonkers" seems to have set some kind of new standard. Riders can do a lot of work on the flat taking the main hit of the wind and just busting their as$. You may have a point but Bertie likes him in the team and Tinkov would not pay for any slackers. He has never really set the world alight and most teams have riders who are similar. Its only a few riders who for whatever reasons ;) can make an impact big time and be constant at that standard. But your point is fair enough.

The TS lineup announced: At the start in Sanremo, Tinkoff-Saxo lines up Alberto Contador, Roman Kreuziger, Michael Rogers, Ivan Basso, Sergio Paulinho, Manuele Boaro, Matteo Tosatto, Christopher Juul-Jensen and Ivan Rovny.

hmm, this is the first time (if my memory served) that Contador goes to the GT race without Hernandez. I bet his roomy is going to be Basso? I guess Contador is now mature, he didn't have to always have his close nit friend like he used to be. He must like his new team mate. Great for him.

I'll bet Oleg nixed Hernandez.....

I think that's unfair; go watch the last GT's where Paulinho was riding for Contador. He was there everytime he was supposed to. He's not a high mountain climber but he carries the piano as good as anyone on the medium mountains days of which there will be plenty in this Giro.

hmmm not sure about that either. If I'm not mistaken, contador has been training with Basso a lot more. (I remember seeing his twitter pic with basso riding in front of contador). Maybe they saved him for the tour? On second thought, if they have to add fire power to the tour, team will be sagan, majka kiserlovski. that's 3 riders. So 3 riders from the giro will be out to make room for those three. Unless kreuziger got banned, then possibly hernandez can fit in? But I think it would be save to say hernandez will be for vuelta for sure?

FINALLY no place for Hernandez. I think he was a okay rider some years ago, but he really haven't showed anything these last few years. He's never really there when Contador needs, or i guess he's only doing the job when we're not watching. Some years ago he was always there in the high mountains, attacking with Contadors and splitting groups. Very happy Boaro got his place instead.

Why no kiserlovski? Guess he'll make the Tour team in topform instead of Kreuziger then.

Overall very strong team. Hope Kreuziger can stay as last man until there's only Poz, Aru, Porte, Uran and Contador - before his suspension he would definelty be there with those guys.

Hernandez is one of the riders that has struggled with the new training regime (heavy training load, like Sky). Rogers' form is a bit of a mystery but he usually turns up n good shape. I don't really get the Rovny selection. Is that because Oleg wants a Russian in the team? I'm not convinced Basso will be that useful. We'll see. Kreuziger will likely be very good and that should be enough for Contador even if the rest of the team don't perform well.

reminds me of when in 2011 he declared that the key block of the Giro was going to be the Grossglockner - Zoncolan - Gardeccia weekend.

Well, no **** Sherlock.

They asked him that question is he supposed to lie or what?

Ofc not, I'm just disappointed that this kind of "revelations" deserves a headline at all.

Although it would be nice if anybody could point another stage out. You know, just for the sake of originality.

Laaaaaal.

Key block is obviously 18, 19, 20.

Or, if you ignore the restday, 14, 15, 16.
key block is 1, ..., 21.
If you don't go well in that block, your chances are slim.

(Typical AC quote)

That's true. It's all about stage 9. You can lose minutes on that stage, especially if it rains. Oh boy.

Contador never plays his cards to reporters.... Before every Grand Tour he points to a certain stage but makes a different move on another stage. Stage 5, Contador will make a move. With 8.5km to to the summit it 9% then goes to 10% mostly and stretches of 11% for the next 4 kms...it levels out after that but I believe Contador tests his rivals here.

LOL.

What a gesture that was to pull Tiralongo to the line for his first ever win.

By contrast in the 2002 tour Armstrong, Heras and Beloki were isolated in the mountains on one specific stage. Armstrong should have told Heras to go for it and Beloki would have not chased down a non GC threat but if he did Armstrong could have drafted and counter attacked. The Tour was over at that point anyway. Heras should have won that stage if a certain someone had a little bit of class.
