So even in the bad case (12 weeks) he has still 39 weeks left to prepare for TDF2015. I trust your man to be able to do it. ;)
I trust him,but we have to help him!Everyone who is Contador fan should have twitter or insta account and sending him messages through his recovery time I think.

I think he will announce his retirement at the end of the year/early next year. I have been a cycling fan for many years but I have never been this disappointed before.
That would be devastating for all of us,and all cycling fans.On the other hand I remember he mentioned after his 2012 comeback,if cycling will take anything from him in coming years,he will consider to retire.

If he's off the bike for 12 weeks and only then starts training, he'll never reach top form. It's that simple. It isn't just about the Tour. He needs to ride races too, and if he rides those races in bad shape a 2013 scenario is likely.

I know you're all down, but Contador has looked good all season and super strong going into the last 2 weeks of this Tour. Yes, it has ended all in tears, and its a great shame for him but I see no reason why his level should suddently radically drop. He has at the very very least 2 years left as a top dog in the peloton and he'll be ready.

It is a mental thing. The older one gets (i wont rule him out due to age) the harder you must train to come back at this level. Will he be determined to go for this race knowing the grief it has giving him? Is he mentally up for it once again?

I am glad you are optimistic, you have strong points, but it is difficult now. Many questions that cant be answered right away.

Alberto crashed twice, after the first crash he took Nico's bike. So this wasn't the bike he was riding when he crashed and broke his leg.

Apparently the bike fell of the car and broke:confused:

I read that it was Nico's bike that was run over in the street by a team car. I don't know what to make of any of this anymore. But that frame is destroyed.

EDIT: No idea what to make of any of this. Seems a lot of misinformation floating around

Suppose it was already damaged from his first crash. So that it didn't take much for it to snap.

Well, that sucks, I haven't hidden my desire to see Contador lose, but crashes and injuries is not how any half-reasonable person wants races to end.

Any chance he can get back for the Vuelta or is the season over?

If the injury would have been less serious he could have refocused his efforts on this years Vuelta. In that case I think the situation may have been different. But now, all that hard work is for nothing.

No way he'll be recovered in time for la Vuelta, there is a small chance he could race Beijing but then again, why would he.

Yes why would he? Surely not to prove himself. Like Contador said today, it happened and it just wasn't meant to be. The rest is history. What will happen next we will see the coming months.

I really think you guys are being needlessly pesimistic, which is understandable after today. Once you see him get back on the bike, you're all going to be gunning for victories again. As you should. Let the doctors have a good look at him, so that knee gets properly healed. He and Riis will figure out the rest. Your guy is a great champ, he'll overcome this obstacle as he has many others. There's no doubt in my mind.

Riis doesn't agree, he says vuelta is still possible.

They don't know the extent of the injury, he'll get an MRI in Madrid, but the Tour medical report states it's a tibia plateau fracture, which takes at least 6 weeks to heal after surgery.

I still have high hopes for the man. This Alberto Contador we're talking about. He'll fight to the bitter end and then some. Many people were doubting him this year, then the 16th of March came and Passo Lanciano happened

I can't see an attack like Passo Lanciano helping much here.

In normal circumstances it takes at least 6 weaks to recover from a broken tibia. The Vuelta is on in less then 6 weeks. I don't want to see a Contador not at 100% fighting against himself.
