Mauduit: "Alberto got injured at the Tour, I'm not sure it is realistic to go for the win even after a few weeks of hard training in the mountains, we'll go day by day and try to race as we did in the second half of the Tour"

Haters are ready in the starting blocks to tell us how much alberto declined and how he doesn't win any GT in which he takes part

told ya... he is at vuelta to (his word) hopefully win stages on the 3rd week. Alberto.. in a break away... priceless..:D I hope he won't loose to much time, like more than 3 minutes. So when he decides to stroll ala Lannciano or fuente de..it would be awesome to see all the GT contenders freaks out..:D

Is Majka going to ride Vuelta?

Considering what has happened to Roman... Even weak and tired, Majka is still stronger than most of Tinkoff squad for Vuelta.

majka in in the US. Racing US pro cycling currently. After that, he is done for the rest of the season.

And this confirms what we all knew, he's gonna go for the win and he was already training 2 weeks after his injury. I don't know how much form you can lose in 2 weeks.

I think you can lose a lot especially when the rider gains weight which i'm pretty sure Contador didn't. Will be interesting.

@jelantik, read the article properly, AC is going for the win, stage wins are of no concern atm.

Saxo contradicts itself the whole time.

What really occured imo:

Contador's tweet from a few weeks ago that he can't ride the vuelta was most likely set up, thus a lie. Since a few days after that tweet he was seen training (this was a day after the tour ended). Then cause of the rumors the saxo pressy guy says Contador can barely ride his hometrainer.

I'm not sure why that lie was necessary, i guess to settle down expectations and if contador would win the vuelta it'll only strengthen his legacy.

Then finally Contador rides the vuelta 10 days before it started cause his knee finally doesn't hurt. Well whoever believes that is....

23 august, Contador will have almost trained for 4 weeks after only being 2 weeks inactive. He can win the vuelta. Once again this is just my take on it based on the info i've received.

Does the tweet need to be a lie? Perhaps he was out training already but was having good days and bad days. One day goes out and does a 50K ride, the next day wakes up with his leg hurting. In that situation I can easily imagine someone getting emotional and tweeting something negative in the heat of the moment that they later regret. On the other hand - the Saxo press guy - they're basically paid to lie, so that probably was misdirection :)

So is Contador just going out the for stage wins or does he really believe he can be fit enough to ride for GC? Every article I read completely contradicts each other.

In the video that he put out, he said he was going to go for stage wins in the third week. Of course plenty of people around here think that is hog wash....he's going for the win. :D

He may be over training. You joke, but my guess is that De Jongh will definitely be on his case-we'll know next year if he's just simply too old (he's almost 6 Horner years old!) or was trying poorly before. :D

Basso is basically made to be a mountain super-dom, i.e. the ability to just ride a fast steady tempo for as long as required. In fact, in recent years he's been riding as a super-dom for himself :) by going to the front of the small-GC group and riding tempo in order to try and prevent attacks.

I believe his poor performance this year has to be mental rather than physical, as he can't have dropped off that much since the Vuelta last year. He seems to be a someone who lets go completely if he's not in top form, while others suffer for every second in a bid to secure a top 20. E.g. He finished 20 mins down in the autobus in the US Pro yesterday. However out of shape he is, I can't believe he was truly trying there.

I think becoming a dom for a rider that's capable of winning GC (Contador) will change his mental outlook and he'll be able to get back to something close to last year's form. Not GT podium-form type form of course, but being a useful helper and perhaps doing something in smaller stage races.

He said in the tweet that he not had any time to "take the bike" and that the healing processes was getting complicated - riding his bike and train hard was the least thing you would have believed. And yet he wasnt far off.

He tweeted that after the wound had to be reopened and cleaned because it got infected.

I'd say stage 6 will be crucial. If he survives Froome&Quintana going crazy there, we can expect him to take overall / be a serious danger for these two.
