There was no way Armstrong could have known Heras would have beat Beloki. Armstrong did try and get Heras a win if he could.
Get your facts right before making non founded accusations ,,,,here's the stage and you can see that Heras was no way a sure thing to win it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kqh4a4kooEE

Armstrong didnt try and get Heras a win. Based on what? Get your facts straight. And dont believe everything Phil and Paul are saying during the broadcast. Im aware of the dialect they have about Armstrong wanting to give Heras the win. 1) I didnt see him let up after he attacked and 2) He should have let Heras attack first. This is the only way to attempt to give Heras a win. Beloki would have to set the pace as Armstrong isnt going to chase a team-mate. Heras could move up the road gain 15-20s....Armstrong could attack Beloki, bridge to HEras and trade pulls to the finish line with Beloki gone. Conclusion there was no attempt at giving Heras the stage.

If Heras was up the road or could have attacked then Armstrong would have let him go.
He cannot let Beloki go or let him win. Beloki was not dropped and at that point Heras could not drop him or he would have. Armstrong was there to win the tour and Heras was there to help him.
There was no way Armstrong could be assured Heras would win that stage. Your making a lot of assumptions but none of them realistic. Armstrong has on many times tried to give his team mates a victory and even let rivals take the win on a stage. Get your facts right not just making assumptions that have no truth whatsoever.

Name few of that many times, I don't remember them at all!

£100 on Contador 9/1for Double. Easy.

Those are abysmal odds to take IMO. Much to low for me!

No, those seem like fair odds to me. If you believe winning the Giro provides no information about his chance to win the Tour, then you need something like 50% to win the Giro, 20% to win the Tour to break even, on average, on this bet, which is what the betting markets indicate is about right.

Of course, it would be better to bet on Contador to win both in separate bets with the slightly better odds that are available. Definitely not abysmal tho.

Party time. Enjoy !!!!!!!!

I think Contador plans Giro-Tour double in a good way. He could start Giro with 80% form knowing that most difficult stages will be in the second half of the race. After finishing Giro (with 90-95 % form) he will rest and try to reach his highest peak in the second half of the Tour de France. Hard task but not impossible - his lack of victories so far may be an indication of his training plans. Richie Porte has an opposite preparation path - he's in 100% form and will try to maintain it to the end of Giro.

if he does the double what do you see his next few years like? he would have nothing left to prove, but if could then do the tour vuelta double next year he would have all 3 doubles, and have been first across the line in 12 grand tours. not a bad way to go, but the year after would be the 100th Giro, and he could potentially have all 3 at the same time.

Tinkoff, isn't he CEO of a company?
Seems not to involve a lot of work. Can take off weeks just for his hobby.

Fleur, if you would read wuyts's colum on Contador today you would hate the guy even more.

Enlighten us please.

Said contador was a sad person for not defending Riis. Made Contador look like a puppet of Tinkov and eventually concluded that contador is simply an ordinary opportunist.

Wuyts hates Contador, he always hated him. If you listen to the broadcasts, you'd know it. Why? Prob cause he was on bruyneel's team and wuyts hates that guy.

This was a perfect opportunity for wuyts to bash him. It's quite ironic isn't it?

Wuyts is now on nibali hype train praising nibali all the time and bashing contador for being on doped teams. That is fair, if only he could point that out for nibali too (and others).

Edit: And Contador has no choice but not to defend Riis. What is he supposed to say in the media? It'll only make IT harder for the team and him. Riis knows that too. Contador prob didn't wanna talk about it so tried to quickly end it. If he talks about it, he'd feed the media hand for drama.

I think Bertie has handled it rather well. He said openly that Riis was very important to his career, and he's said that Tinkoff made what he (Tinkoff) thought was the best decision. What he really might think he's kept to himself. Who knows what he might have said to Riis or indeed, to Oleg, behind the scenes? He just chooses not to cause a kick-up in public, because he's a classy guy.

I don't love Oleg, but I am still not really clear what prompted the kick up between Oleg and Riis.

As for anyone blindly hating Bertie, I find that hard to understand. I mean, he's not exactly a Lance type character who is kind of in-your-face. He's pretty inoffensive.

I see there's a new GCN interview with him. Looked pretty focused. And he does look pretty lean in that shot...

Funny how the perspective changes when not coming from a douche bag.

From la Gazzetta dello Sport.

When he speaks of Italy he always warms up. It is always just so. "We were trying out the TTT course, Matteo Boaro and myself - Contador explains - when all of a sudden I heard a tifoso shout 'Go Alberto! Destroy them all!!!' - 'Thanks!' We both had a good laugh."

In this 98th Giro d'Italia, he is the shining star. He say's he is ready "to attack, after which the strategy might change, but in the beginning I'll go on the move." With elegance and diplomacy he then adroitly deals with a question about Oleg Tinkov's decision to fire Byarne Riis: "The boss wants to win the Giro? Well he certainly doesn't want to win it more than me. As far as Riis is concerend, if he thought the team without Byarne was better, then he made the right decision. As for me, I'm completely confident in the people I have working with me."

On the Giro-Tour double Contador said: "It's gotten to a point where if I win another Tour or Giro it doesn't change anything. Whereas focusing exclusively on the French race, doesn't motivate me anymore. But if you are talking about winning both in the same season, well, that does change things. It is the type of goal people say is impossible, but precisely for that reason I find it so motivating. Last year I crashed in the Tour, when I was at my maximum level and then, even without ideal preparation before, I won the Vuelta and this has made me believe that I can win the Giro and Tour in one year. Of course it's more risky, but if we have planned everything well and bar incidents or illness, it is doable. If I didn't believe that, I wouldn't be attempting it. Right now, though, it's all the Giro. I have not come here thinking I need to be any less focussed than at the Tour, or will only ride on calculated efforts to try and save myself for the Tour. No, I will give 100% to win the Giro and I won't start thinking about the Tour until afterward."

Curious to hear Contador's comments. Nice buffer over his GC rivals and no pressure to control the race
