2010 berto was still good, not amazing but still good. Won paris-nice, tour and prob best rider in LBL and FW :p

20 seconds in front of the rest is a good sign.
I've misjudged his chances.

20 seconds????? HAHAHAHA

Gonna use all my savings for paris-nice, free money.
What are you laughing to?

20 seconds is a lot, it's hilarious if you compare it with 3 days ago.

He just crushed the field in a fashion that Froome does it when he's going full ***. Look up the results of 2014 algarve, against worse competition and he barely got a gap.

This hill is nothing, 3k at 10% and he got so much. Might be a good year after all
Cut the crap.
Being harmless in the GC, we don't know whether he's been allowed to jump earlier or beat them in a group clash later on.
All we know is that he could maintain the pace in front of the rest. Something he couldn't do several days ago.

Ladies and gentleman, after careful scientific analysis of the Algarve thread I've found out the following.

These are the 7 stages of Contador Fandom

Hype-Denial-Anger-Bargaining-Depression-Acceptance-Hype-repeat

Well written, but I would insert something like rational view between acceptance and hype

Well, this was nice. With such a form, he should be the favourite for Paris-Nice now. Only a short prologue at the beggining and then mountains at the end. He obviously needed a couple of days to find the race rythm and I still believe that wind played a major role on his performance on stage 2 (and 3). And in the end he even managed to finish on the podium, so it looks really simillar to 2014 (except that he was 2nd or 1st in every race he finished that year). But I would gladly take 1st or 3rd in every race, as long as he wind the Tour :D

Bravissimo Alberto

I did not expect the victory, I was hoping for a top 3.
And he ended up winning by giving the beauties of 20s to people like Aru and Pinot in a short and explosive climb.
Vamos!!!

and I add that in 2014 he distanced Rui costa only 2s and 10s Kwiat.
today we witnessed a great performance

Sadly not technically witnessed. I NEED A VIDEO! ;-)

yeah, me too. For now we can only judge the result in seconds( and from 2s to 20s it's not a small differnce), i hope decent highlights in the next hours

He said that he maybe had a hunger knock in foia.
Early season mistake, he certainly looks thin so he'll need to be careful this season as to not do it at an important time. Today's result is great for cycling, a battle royale between Alberto, Froome and Nairo in July.

Okay Charlie Brown. You're a bit on the wishy-washy side. Just a few days ago he was "a liar" and previous to that similarly less than complimentary terms, but of course you're entitled to your perspective.

From FB:

"I knew I was coming to Portugal in good form. I hadn't raced since a number of months and on the second stage, I probably lacked a bit of energy in the final part, that's why I lost more time than I would have lost under normal conditions. For that reason, for me, today was an important day. I had the legs and I was feeling I could win. That's why the squad worked together with Movistar and we clinched the win. I'm very happy with this victory and I'd like to dedicate it to Oleg Tinkov and Tinkoff Bank for their backing and trust they showed through their sponsorship during the last four years. It's, obviously, easier to win when you have that kind of support. We will keep fighting, with our sights always set on the big goal of the year, the Tour de France.

I'd also like to thank the whole team for their hard work at the Volta ao Algarve, some days with no payout, but today we topped it off and grabbed the victory. I'm happy I stepped on the podium and as I said, the last time I raced was at the Tour de France last year, so it's always encouraging to debut with a victory. It boosts your confidence but at the same time we shouldn't rest on our laurels. We have to stay concentrated and deliver.

My next goal is Paris-Nice, a race in which I last competed in 2010. I'll be back this year and I hope I'll be able to obtain a good result."

Still have to wait and see how much room he has to improve. Obviously it's a good sign, but he was also very good last year in his first race.

I have better hopes than before the stage, but P-N will tell a lot more, because that's the first real "big" one week race of the year, where all people have to be on form.

Waiting to get my hopes up yet. Who will be his competitors in P-N? And anyone know the tinkoff line-up?

Not too shabby for our el pistolero. At least a win is a win. I'm a little relief that he didn't get dropped by Thomas (oh good God).. other wise I will be..... *(sound fx) - throwing kitchen sink in slow motion*.. luckily el pistolero come through :). 3rd place is not bad. Next stop, Paris-Nice.

I believe Froomey will be there. And Porte. (I bet Tejay would be). I thought Quintana is on TA. My guess, Valverde and Purito will be there too. And so does Pinot.
