Contador was beating quintana in the ITT, and the Mountain stage before that he crushed quintana, he only got back cause of purito and his teammate.

And Contador clearly got way better in the 3rd week. In 2014 quintana was no match for contador, TA and catalunya showed that

Crushing suggest taking more minutes. They finished in the same time.
And in 2013 and 2015 Contador was no match for Quintana. 2013 in Pais Vasco and the Tour, 2015 T-A and the Tour. It was almost too easy.
They have been even in 2016. Nothing suggest that Quintana 'will get his arse kicked'

And in 2013 and 2015 Contador was no match for Quintana. 2013 in Pais Vasco and the Tour, 2015 T-A and the Tour. It was almost too easy.
They have been even in 2016. Nothing suggest that Quintana 'will get his **** kicked'

Let's not consider that Contador rode the giro in 2015. Quintana really beat him fair and square

Sorry but you can't judge Quintana on first part of GT, he's always better in 3rd week and maybe he would've won the Vuelta 2014 too, I'm neutral.

2x 2nd places in the Tour matters a lot. Throw in polka dots, white jerseys and a stage win.
Contador took what, 12 seconds, on a hill finish and Quintana was with him on the next climb. The Vuelta had just started, lmao. If I remember correctly, he was going really well in the ITT as well. Please dont say that Contador was crushing him in that Vuelta. We both know Quintana's main strength - the 3rd week and big mountains.

Perform in the Tour and he would be able to silence a lot of his critics. The last 3 times, he has not only been under par, but downright bad relative to his normal strength. The Tour is what matters.

Looool, he wasn't going well in the TT. Even without crashing, he was loosing almost two minutes for contador.

Quintana lost 0.20 on the first split. Realistically, he would've lost 1 minute, tops.

Yes, and Contador hasn't finished better than 4th since 2009, or 2010 - whatever you'd like - in the Tour. The place where it is decided who is the best stage racer in the world.

Alberto has been a great rider bit he's past his peak by 7 years. His best years are behind him, Quintana on the other hand is just getting better. I think this tour will be the one that makes it clear that Quintana and not contador is now the second best gt rider in the world behind froome.

The Tour is the best measuring stick for the peak performance relative to the others and sadly, Contador hasn't been able to perform in this race for various reasons since 2010.
Everything comes second to the Tour, but Voeckler or F. Schleck obviously weren't better stage racer than Contador in 2011, thats obvious. Common sense.

You never hear people mention Alberto's numerous podium places in big races. For great champions, it is simply not necessary.

Only a fool will dispute Alberto's greatness in terms of GC-racing, but we aren't comparing palmarés, rather discussing who will be better in 2016. If it was a contest of who has the better palmarés, they wouldn't even bother racing in 2016 - Alberto would've won already.

I don't think anyone is jealous. I think there are a couple of posters who would wish we could have a more nuanced debate in this thread since its actually is a discussion thread, not a love or an admiration-thread which someone mistakenly could be led to think it was considering every discussion quickly gets shut down by the Contador-horde led by you, LF, blackmamba and Blurry.

And there is at least 11 riders(Aru, Contador, Horner, Rodrigues, Froome, Valverde,Peraud,Nibali,Quintana, Uran and possibly Krujswijk, Chaves and Majka) with a better GC palmares than Landa from 2013 onwards.
What's your point?

Because recent GC palmares is an indicator of current level. If you'd do it for Landa, it would be from 2015 onwards obviously, and then it would only be 6 at the most. It doesn't tell the whole story, but I think at least shows consistency at the highest level.

Another thing you could look at is power estimates, but that is where a lot of variables come in, the importance of which is up for interpretation, and as such a lot of subjectivity comes in.
