@EuroHoody Is it possible as Velonews to contact Contador or Team Tinkof for a more specific explanation? 'Health problems' is rather vague.

I've asked-- could be allergy problems, they're wicked right now in Spain, and Contador's suffered from them before

Let's hope so.

Stupid pollen - will I have to do a permanent rain dance during the Tour?

Alberto won't start the nationals tomorrow (he says health is the reason). Cold he be really ill (which would be a big problem a week before the Tour) or is this just a little excuse so he doesn't need to travel all the way to Spain, whisch leaves him with a bit more training time?
I hope and suspect it is the latter, but it does make me wonder why he planned to participate in the first place?
That was before he saw how good Froome was at Dauphine. He had to step it up 2 notches, forget the nationals.

or maybe he's preparing for skipping TdF - if he's unable to reach a significantly better level than in Dauphine, it would be logical step to save himself for Vuelta.

Euh Kwibus, we've proof of contador lying consistently about his health so yea it is an obvious lie. Don't need proof to come to that conclusion, sure it ain't 100% but it's pretty damn close to it

I know he lies too much and that's why people always think he's lying, also at times when he's not. He created that himself.
Either way, we don't know for sure he's lying now unless we have proof that he's ill or not. We can only guess he's probably lying, but were not sure.

He could have a doctors note and pictures of an infected knee and they'd still call him a liar. Like when that Really Happened! So go figure, people just like to make up conspiracies.

I think he has either a slight cold or allergies. At least I hope it no worse than that!

"Bad news. I wont be able to ride the vuelta"

Then he proceeds to win the race.

Well you do know that after he said that he had his knee reopened, cleaned out of stones, the infection subsided and he was able to train again right? Life changes, wounds heal allowing people to do things they didn't think they could at the time of the quote.

Not everything in life is black and white, true or false. Time and actions change the possibilities. At the time he said it it was True, post surgery it was no longer true but he didn't know that until the race was much closer.

Some people just like to think and say the worst of anyone and anything. Maybe someday they will mature and see life isn't always Binary!

I'd give more credit to his statement if it was a withdrawal from the tt (the race that could've objectively been a target and/or useful to him). This sounds like an excuse to avoid an interruption.

Some people just refuse to believe anything he says even when it makes sense or when he provides proof. Best to ignore them :)

But there are so many to ignore :). I thought I'd try a 'life lesson' before pushing the buttons!

I'm always happy to read words of reason.

His brother Fran says he's affected by the air conditioning. Could be a lie cause it seems a bit too easy to just throw that to keep training.

If it's not a lie, then that's one more reason he shouldn't have left Livigno that early, where temperatures aren't as high.

If you noticed, he's not really enthusiastic on the social medias these last few days, hope not for bad reasons.
Good thing is that we don't have to wait long anymore to know.

If he is a little bit sick, its not that bad. One week before the tour your up to rest a bit to be fresh at the start. The hard and long training kms are made in the last month and weeks.

If its a bit more and he take antibiotics it can be a problem in the first few tour-days.
