I hope Quintana allows him some freedom now so Alberto can possibly take a stage.
It will be tough though, there's still Froome, Chaves etc.

I'm confident on this. Alberto's aid was crucial to blow Froome.
It will be tough but if I have to choose a stage where it has more possibilities, i say Camins de Penyagolos take rather Alto de Aitana. On long climbs Froome is much stronger than the short and steep

He can't do it uphill, and with the parcours as it is for the rest of the Vuelta, and teams as they are, I really do think the ship sailed a long, long time ago.

Yep, in much the same way that Tim Wellens is the greatest hilly classics rider of his generation.

I think he began the stage without a clear target...he wanted only try something and see what happen

The only moment when i perceived pure honesty from Contador in the interview after today´s stage was when he said that the support of the people means a lot to him.

He doesn´t give a **** at this point about anything but the wins and the epic. He might be wrong. But this is how Alberto is.

And that´s why everybody was supporting Contador on the road and not many other cyclists.

Paradox:
Alberto captained this break so well - driving cajoling watching directing etc -
Yet he hardly ever marshals his own team mates to any similar effect.

He seems best in an improvised motley crew.

CF could never get the same out of such a mixed bunch.

That's the difference - that's the human factor.

There is no rider currently comparable to Bertie. He is far the most exciting rider in the current peleton. He has got to win one more GT as farewell and I would like it to be TDF. Light it up for it has been the most boring GT in recent time. I am not ruling out some thing happening this week, the fella does not play for second. 4 mins sounds impossible, but like berths says you will not know for sure unless you try. Pantani and maybe Eddy are the only comparable riders I can think off. Perhaps quintana will fade, we have go to try, push the button. He needed an ally and got it surprisingly from movistar, now turn the tables on them, perhaps sky as ally? Hey I will take any...ha-ha

Not really. Tim Wellens usually comes up short in succeeding with his plan (well, because he has no other plan than his usual long range attacks). Also, Wellens is not risking too much, as he would be dropped in the finals of races like Fleche-Wallone and Amstel, anyway.
Despite not winning today, I would call the break, initiated by Alberto, a big success. I admire Wellens' attack willingness, but outside minor races like Eneco Tour, he rarely succeeds with his long range attacks.
