Exactly. Could not help but laugh when I read the interview. As if Tinkov really believes his own words . .

Oh, don't question he actually believes what he says for a second. TInkoff is a straight shooter and says whatever he thinks is right, no PR-nonsense or whatever. Its not like what he says its completely outlandish - rather, Contador being who he is is pretty well documented and many has known that for a while.

Actually, how was Contador's image tarnished by this interview? Just because Tinkov likes to party and drink, is it wrong if Contador is serious and focused on his goals? I can certainly understand Contador's behaviour and it is Tinkov's failure if he could not adapt his leadership style to the needs of one of his star riders.

I laughed so hard while reading this interview. Most of it is probably true but still what a classless piece of bs by tinkov. This guy is unbelievable

I'd say that he should be happy that a rider under his employment is so dedicated to his job. It all sounds rather contradictory and petty. On the one hand he says that Contador is extremely focused and on the other he says that he's boring and that he's never liked him. I can't say that I've ever cared for Tinkoff and this pretty much fortifies it for me. Classless to the very end. Even worse is that he would go so far as to sabotage a rider's future with his new team because he is holding an obvious grudge.

I think many knew these things about Contador, I remember various people in this thread questioning his personality. It really comes as no surprise. I wouldn't have had a problem with it if Tinkoff just phrased it a bit differently, he comes across a bit to harsh at times, but very interesting interview.

So Tinkoff is the only one to blame here and Contador had no responsibility whatever? Sagan doesn't seem to have any problem with it.
I didn't say anything about Contador. He doesn't seem the type that is very outgoing in situations where he's not very comfortable. Tinkoff is probably the last person he'd warm up to.

Surely Tinkoff has a history of speaking his mind. As long as that opinion is high of himself. He's made good points in the past, but he himself has made sure that nobody would ever heed his points because of all the *** that has come out of his mouth inbetween those good points he's raised. He's discrediting his own statement here by exaggerating massively. This little more than a petty man kicking a dog when he's down.

The point about teams not getting any of the TV money was pretty good. But then his inability to use any nuance and his tendency to rant for the sake of ranting rather than actually trying to achieve anything with it tends to overshadow it.

But teams already get money from organizers (and it still isn't a very original point). I also don't think it's good. It's much more important to secure the economy of races than teams, imho.

Anyways, I think the interview revealed (yet again) more about Tinkov than Contador.

Tinkov is a piece of ***. Honest but a terrible human being.

Highly social people like him will never be able to get introverts like Contador (or myself for that matters)..

What a ***. He has a short memory, it wasn't so long ago he was hanging out of his car with *** ridiculous pink hair celebrating the Giro win like it was the best thing that ever happened to him.

Leader: Alberto Contador

Alberto Contador was someone who really impressed me immensely. In team meetings for example, he would really take charge and go around the room, pointing out to each rider what he was expecting of him, what they did or didn't do right the day before. He really put a lot of pressure on his teammates, but in a good way. He was probably the best leader I've ridden for in the way he conducted himself. He was just a ferocious competitor, never say die and just hard. Despite all his talent, he's just hard.

I think he can just go to the next level, he's extremely impressive.

It certainly makes you go deeper when he's sitting on your wheel and you're drilling it for him. It makes you go that little bit further, that little bit deeper because it's probably going to blow everyone's doors off and put him in a better spot. It's really motivating.

Baden Cooke about Alberto in his dreamteam.

This year there indeed seemed to be problems in the team, but Im not sure if thats really AC's fault.

Piece of ...t and terrible human being?

That's why he spent $50M to pay Berto, Sagan etc. If it wasn't for him, the team would be long gone ... years ago.

BTW Do you say the same about your employer? I can tell you never owned a business and have no idea what it takes to run a business/team and what the owners should expect from their employees.

Exactly. They just don't understand.
Sure Contador might be very serious and professional and also a bit boring. He's for sure not as outgoing as Tinkov or Sagan for that matter. It's no surprise Tinkov got along much better with Sagan than with Alberto. Does that mean Contador is a "sad person"? I wouldn't think so.

My favourite bit of the Tinkoff interview:

Contador won’t be at the farewell party because I told him: you’re sick, stay at home, you can’t bring a virus to the party and make the other guys sick before the World Championships. I think the party will be better without him anyway because he’s a sad person. He never really wants to drink champagne and is always careful about what he eats because he’s focused on winning the Tour de France in July. That’s what he was like last November in Moscow. That’s a stupid attitude, that’s why he kept crashing, he’s too hard on himself and too focused. Peter is more relaxed and is easy going. The guys who are always serious are always boring. They can *** off. They’re boring guys, they have a terrible life.

Disgraceful behaviour from a human point of view, but I like to know about these intriges we as fans barely know of. Makes things a lot more interesting than the political correctness that is served most of the time.

Giggs, Tinkov is referring to the off-season, not a month before the Tour of course.

Tinkov complains mainly of two things:
- never winning The TdF
He should have taken care of better dom's and should 't have ditched Riis when he did. BTW what is he doing criticizing the clique around Contador? He promoted De Jongh to DS after ditching Riis. So what is it going to be? The clique is terrible and he made a gross error in judgement making De Jongh DS or it is really not so bad as he now claims.
- not winning the team WT-ranking
The only reason they were in with a shout in the first place was due to two riders. Sagan and Contador. To now turn around and spite one of them is rather classless. Then again ...... what's new?
