I find your lack of faith disturbing

Sorry for being realistic. I guess, when I'm realistic when everyone is pessimistic as ****, everyone believes I am an idiotic fan, and now when some people present the most hysterical scenarios as actual, likely possibilities and I offer some realism, it's a "lack of faith"...

You're just upset...it is okay, I understand.

It is unrealistic to believe he can win the Vuelta but gosh darn I'm going to enjoy watching him try!

Yep. And considering he hasn't won a stage this year, it's comfortably his best and most memorable performance of the season for me.

He put a minute into Froome on a GT mountain stage. That doesn't happen every day.

This is nothing on Nice 2017. He attacked from 50 km out that day and dropped all his GC rivals just like today and almost won the whole race.

Almost (!) beautiful that he didn't win, in that only true cycling fans can really appreciate what he did today. I for one shall never forget.

His attack in Paris-Nice this year was easily more memorable. If he had won here, this would have just edged it out, but when you strip it of all the emotional value it was just a 2nd row GC contender attacking on the final climb with a breakaway rider staying away. That happens quite often, what he did in Paris-Nice was one of a kind.

The race is not finished .... there are 3 very important stages (not only Angliru)
But Alberto just steps on the top of the podium .... question of traditions!

No way. Failing to beat Henao in an attack during a stage race is nothing like destroying Froome, Nibali, Lopez et al. on one of the hardest GT climbs we have seen this season.

I think you're being harsh re. 2nd row GC contender. Even though he is that at this stage in the race, it wasn't like he was gifted time or allowed off the leash. Everyone was going pretty much flat out from the point Contador attacked until the finish, and he smoked them all.

You're better than this Flo. This wasn't realism, this was just hysterical girly overemotioning. "He won't win saturday, he won't end up on the podium, bla bla bla."

For christ sake for what are you a Berto fan then? Only for his class on (and off) the bike?
Today he showed what all of us are desperately hoping for for years now. Like Piti correctly stated: that was some performance there.

That's still the beautiful thing about cycling: if you wanna win, you gotta push it to the limit and beyond, and then you MIGHT have a chance....

It has been a memorable day (like yesterday and like many other days)
Alberto is really being the big star of this race.
During 2016 and 2017 had very bad luck ... lost in Nice for 1 ", Andalucia, etc, etc.
But his level is excellent and the Tour de France I think came very well but the falls left him very "limited" and "weighed"
We are seeing these days the reality of your level! :razz:

He'd be sitting second right now on GC

He would've been given a lot less freedom, yes, and the race would be completely different, but Sky have been marking him anyway

But he probably wouldn't have attacked from far on stage 15 and he wouldn't lost 40 seconds to froome.
He would be one minute down on the gc without andorra. But day happens, so i hope to see him shooting on angiru

For years he's been churing giant gears and struggles. Today he had a small gear and was flying again

Oh, he will try tomorrow for sure, hopefully he'll be smart on Saturday and wait for Angliru, if he goes from far on that stage it's game over.

Great performance. Best climbing performance since Ordizia or Courchevel '14

But let's wait till Angliru. The past years he performs better on really steep, somewhat shorter climbs and in TT's, then on long hard climbs. So maybe he will get dropped by the likes of Lopez and Nibali on Saturday.

But he leaves through the front door for sure. And that's the only way to end for such a great champion.

Frustrating as it was, I don't think one can call this stage a 'waste of effort'? As someone pointed out, it was one of his best performances since 2014. OK, another ****** second, but a memorable ride against the best. Like many of the other near misses he has had, sometimes by seconds (Paris-Nice) - even non Contador fans remember that stage: Mortirolo etc. etc. He was just riding as he always does, giving it his all, this time it was particularly impressive. Certainly the commentators I was listening to were impressed; the 'old warrior' taught the 'young' a thing or two. One can only but enjoy some of the last of these memorable performances. Life and/or cycling is SO unfair so often!

I would love AC to be on the podium, but at another level I don't care , he has made this race interesting, tense, and exciting- . La Vuelta overall has been more interesting to watch than the TdF (imo)- though not so much for the sprinters ( to put it mildly).

Trek could have helped Bora and Astana chase down the breakaway, at least on the flat bits. Great ride today, didn't think he could keep up that tempo to the end.
