A shame about the bad luck, and it's amazing that he still will go down as a top 5 greatest cyclist of all time despite it. Realistically, he should have won 5 Tours (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) with a very strong shot at 2012, 2014, and 2016 if not for crashes, the incredibly strict enforcement of the clenbuterol test which goes counter to more recent treatment of similar cases (sorry about the clinic stuff - not my main point). That would have given him 5 Tours, 3 Giros, 3 Vueltas and it easily could have been 8 Tours, 3 Giros, and 3 Vueltas. That he's retiring with 2/2/3 officially hurts, but the amount of adversity he's faced al- and how he's handled it, is a huge reason he is who he is, Alberto Contador, El Campion.

Side note: I do recognize that Froome could easily have 2011 Vuelta, 2012 Tour, and 2014 Tour, which would put him at 6 Tours and 2 Vueltas.

But, coulda woulda shoulda for both of them. I supposed I'm the rare fan, but I think they're both amazing athletes and all-time greats. Contador is the man I cheer for though. Every time. At a loss for what to do now.

Goodbye champion! Eventually, cycling will continue without him. But cycling will mis him for sure.

His ever-attacking spirit, agression, passion and joy on a bike will be missed for sure.

GRANDE ALBERTO!!!

Re: Re:

Eurosport one used for a moment the most epic ink on their screen: "Farewell, señor Contador", with a revolver belt hanged up in the foreground and a guy pedaling to the sunset in the background. Man, i must find that one.

Bye bye Bertie, see you in Isreal in May.
Really
Really what? I genuinely believe that will be the case, one can only hope, right?

We know he retired many times in the past years. But making a comeback? I believe him in this case ;)

I don't think he'll come back. He's not greedy like Lance. He saw how LA tarnished his legend coming back. This was a perfect, beautiful sendoff for Contador, and he won't spoil it.

He will be missed.

It's somehow different when you saw a rider come up and then go. Contador must have been the first true cycling great I've seen come and go.. the other legends were before my time :p

I think this is one of my first memories when I thought 'this guy is insane'
