All-Time CQ Ranking (1999 - Present)

Cycling Quotient have rankings for each year going back to 1999.

But (as far as I can tell) they don't have is a cumulative ranking, of career points earned. So for fun, I'm going to add up the career points of the most prominent cyclists of the last 11 seasons. Who do people think will be on top?

The names that I think I should be counting are:

Armstrong, Bettini, Boonen, Cancellara, Contador, Cunego, Evans, Freire, Hushovd, McEwen, Menchov, Petacchi, Rebellin, Sanchez (Samu), Sastre, Ullrich, Valverde, Vinokourov, Zabel

If I am missing some names, add them and I will count them too... and don't say TGBM!

Who do people think will have the most points? I'm guessing that it will be a sprinter as even when they have bad seasons they still seem to get points, probably Boonen.

I think it's really close between Zabel and Rebellin who should be 1st and 2nd and Bettini should be a clear 3rd.

Valverde, Petacchi, Freire and McEwen to all finish above Armstrong!

Yea that wont be the last 11 years as some of those riders have been riding longer than that, but that is the all time rankings

That is very GT heavy, Armstrong makes the top 3 on CQ once during 99-05.

Definately Simoni. Bet he is a top ten. Heras, Voigt, Garzelli, Boogerd, Dekker, Leipheimer, Klöden and Casagrande could also be interesting.

When I look at his palmares, I always think how much more Ullrich could've won.

Wow. Valverde is on his way to be an all time CQ great, and by far the top of this generation. He is the top active rider (bar Armstrong whos not racing europe anymore) and all the active guys near him are older - Evans, Vino, Mcewan.

Even with the year ban remaining, i can see him continue his great streak. How far can he go? top 10? top 5?

He'll be nearly 32 when he gets back. Might have a few years left after that, but there's gonna be new guys coming through to challenge. Looking through his seasons, he went from getting some ok results in his first year to 3rd at the Vuelta, 2nd at the Worlds, 5 in Pais Vasco in his second pro year.

I can see Gilbert, Cunego, Boonen, Cancellara and Contador being right up there in a few years.

I'm surprised Rebelin and Zabel are so high on the list. Guess they rate quantity over quality.

Strange to see Contador so "low" on the list as well.

It also favors high placings in races as well whereas the UCI ranking drops off quicker and thus gives higher value for winning but not much else. Most of the top guys have a good sprint so they get lots of extra top 10 placings even if they don't win.

Nocentini is between those 2??

thats strange.

I know Nocentini is quite good, and has had some results, and a longer career, but am still surprised that that almost = - 3 gt 2nd places including 2 tours, 2 GT stage wins, days in yellow AND a monument.

That's the drawback from going after results 4 weeks a year.

Edit: I'm more impressed by van Dijk who hasn't raced for a big team since 2004, had a ban in 2006 and still made the list
