I must admit I don't post that often in the road section because of the childlike bickering about riders that often goes on here - but I think I owe everyone here an apology, I had no idea that Hinault, Mig, LeMond etc were those posters.

You are all awesome and correct in admonishing people for not finishing races.
If any of you wish to reply to this post I will cut it out and put it on my fridge.

So because I think cycling is all about winning and not placing 2nd I have to be LeMond etc. Nice logic

I watched it of course. Could Phinney have continued through the Giro with a broken pelvis? If so, then yes we have a fair comparison.

I'm tired of this broken pelvis story....some say coccyx, some say sacrum. Wherever it was it took an MRI to find it so it had to be a slight fracture NOT a 'broken pelvis'.

Regardless I'm sure it was dreadfully painful. I had a fractured coccyx many years ago, it is nasty. But it was healed Months ago. IMO Andy's issues are mental not physical.....and he's had them for a long time. Now he is afraid and missing Frank.

I felt sorry for him, and pulled for him for months. But now it is time to MTFU .

Everyone has their favourite riders. Andy Schleck has never been one of mine but when he performs like he did in the Tour 2010 or his LBL win and on the Galibier 2011, I find it easy to admire him. He has had many problems but I hope he can get his career back on track, if not this year, next year. It is too easy to kick people when they are down and it's all a bit pointless.

He's down and to kick him while he's struggling is just kind of sad and doesn't reflect well on those doing the kicking.

For me it is a product of the like/dislike relationship......I want him to do well but he disappoints over and over and over again, so I kick him for not meeting my expectations...and Not behaving like a professional bike rider and wasting his enormous talent.

But when he starts again I'll be rooting for him to do well!!! It's crazy I know :(

He fractured his sacrum last year, not during T-A. So if anything Phinney's actions are to be admired more.

Look up Robert Millar's ride in the 1991 TdF with a neck brace, Robbie McEwen's continuation inspite of a fractured vertebra. Also Lech Piasecki who crashed and fractured his arm and still finished. He might have even placed on the stage.

AS does himself no favours at all *****ing around playing at Pro Cycling.

FB's translation is

Late check in at a hotel in the Munich Airport. A well soaked type barely enters the elevator and tries unsuccessfully to press the button. I agree a great cycling champion, twice second in the Tour in recent years. Depressing

It was Andy Schleck. He was wearing the jacket of his former team Leopard Trek. He did not stand. I pressed the button for his floor. I found this situation very sad. He had abandoned the day before in an Italian race and completed over a single race since the spring of 2012. His brother Frank is suspended for one year for doping offences. I had the impression to see a young guy away, drunk and one night in an airport hot

Doesn't believe he won the 2010 Tour either

I think that's a hasty conclusion to come to based on a rider that decides to get drunk after dnf'g a stage race. He obviously has a problem and is choosing the wrong way to deal with it. He definitely needs help though but I wouldn't call an end to his career because of his one incident. He was making progress and likely would've finished T-A if not for the weather. I'm willing to bet that he finishes the next event he enters. Still though someone needs to intervene and get him some help in better dealing with his problems.
