Funny you should say that. Just today I get a text message from my dad who is doing a cycling trip in Southwest France, saying he spotted Andy and two other Radioshack riders near Quillan. This means today they are reconnoitring stage 8, Castres -> Ax 3 Domaines. Quillan is just before the HC Col de Pailhères (2001m). Weather according to my dad: rain and snow

Reconnoitering is good for someone who is in good form. For Andy i think its just a waste of time:confused:

No it's not a waste of time, it's still a good workout while also checking out the stages.

Yeah I also think his main goal is training but when you can do two things at once why not

Thanks a lot, Christian, for keeping us informed :)

I hope he has just a season that Ulle had almost every year. Showing up at the first races with crap shape, then disappearing, staying invisible from April to June, coming back for TdS and being good in Switzerland and then in France.

In July, no one will remember this Politician story in Munich Airport hotel, then it´s just about Andy, and he will be good.

Look how well Cadel did in the Giro. No one expected him to do so well.

Podium is possible for Andy in the Tour, but Froome and Contador might be out of reach.

Good job Christian, keep your spy's close to him, and make sure he is working hard and doing what he needs to do so he doesn't regress again. :D

It will tell us a lot but not everything. Nibali is a good example at last year's Dauphine. Completely invisible there but the only one able to give Sky something to worry about in July.

Do you really think Contador and Froome are going to soft pedal around each other in the ITT or on the Alpe? Or that Andy and Wiggins are going to soft pedal around Suisse? This year is different:)

I hope;)

Any training is good. Why not kill two birds with one stone? What difference does it make what mountains he trains on?

Andy never looks good in races he doesnt care about (most) and he's already won the tour so... yeah. Plus there's a high percentage chance that AC will get relegated to last place and Froome will get countered by team tactics and Wigans.

They were going opposite ways on the same road apparently... although I'm sure my dad could have caught them if he cranked his e-bike all the way up :D

Traveling to the location and arranging things takes time. Adjusting to the locale, weather also requires time. Depending on traffic on the roads, you can't really train 100% all the time. Also there is the risk of crashes. Reconnoitering is good if one is in good form so that you know what gears to choose and when to attack, how to go downhill etc basically from a strategic point of view. If Andy gets dropped before the last climb or on the early slopes, all reconnoitering will come to naught.
Better to train in Teneriffe Sky style.:D. There is added advantage of spying on Froome, Wiggins etc. Maybe start a psychological war on Sky w.r.t descending and demoralize them before the TDF:p

Looks like you were right about the weather, Taxus4a - according to tweets from Jungels and Jens it was below freezing, snowing and access to the top was closed

Totally jealous, yes, because Contador is the one who won his only GT on paper. You're smart!

I am spanish, I lived in Ireland, and the spring in Ireland was warmer and driest than have been the spring in northern Castleland (Burgos) this year.
If he is climbing mountains in France, he is going to have some bad weather, maybe in Mont Ventoux was ok, because is near mediterranean, but not always...

Anybody knows if he is going to take altitude training camp before Suisse? It is a little time already, but...

As far as I know it was only planned to ride in the Alps/Pyrenées, which he is doing right know, I don't know if that counts as an altitude camp

Well not so much pro-Contador as anti-Andy conspiracies. I have uncovered several over the years, so far no action has been taken which means this goes all the way to the top
