Cycling Australia president Klaus Mueller believes Pat McQuaid, the embattled head of the world body, still has a responsibility to answer allegations of complicity in doping before he stands for re-election, despite his national federation in Ireland officially backing him on Friday.

''The members and public are entitled to know whether the UCI - as it has been alleged by some - has been complicit or turned a blind eye to doping.

So McQuaid admits lance had multiple suspicion tests. Verbuggen admits that they warned lance about his blood values several times

The why did they let him comeback in 2009 with less then 6 months in the testing pool?
Why did they work so hard to obstruct USADA?
Why did they smear anyone who questioned lance?
Why did Verbruggen say Lance "never, never, never doped"

Good luck with that. Pat won't admit any wrong doing.

You know, the wheels are slowing coming off McQuaid and the UCI leadership. Use that term loosely of course.

Now leaked memos out about cortisone positives from Armstrong never revealed.

Lets see how Pat tries to dig himself out of that one.

More deflection and lies surely.

Seems like the internal ranks leaking stuff now will cause the implosion from within.

Oh, I hope so. Unfortunately I very much doubt it though.

"You can take this UCI away from me, when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers!"

I think that would be more like the stance taken...

UCI Release Section 2.1:
For me it is possible that if LA was using a skin cream indeed – as is most plausible in view of the test results – he didn’t consider a skin cream as a medicine that had to be declared at doping control. He declared to the press on 21 July 1999 that he didn’t know he needed a medical prescription for a skin cream. According to an article in Le Monde dated 23 July 1999 LA declared that using a skin cream is not taking something. (On its website WADA warns athletes that skin creams and eye-drops can cause positive results which indicates that athletes may not be aware of that or do not consider these as medicines – some consider only medicines taken orally or by injection as medicines).

They were even coming up with the excuses for him.... Despicable.

The UCI publicly positioned themselves as reluctant to apply the USADA ban. Only recently did Hein do another about-face and claim he always had suspicions.

Wiesel must have put up a great deal of money for this kind of allegiance. We know Hein had an account at Wiesel's trading shop that Hein simply confirmed it as true and has no ethical concerns.

What is worse is there's so few people shocked at this kind of behaviour from a sport federation.

I suspect it's because most people understand HOW corrupt most sports federations are, and realise there's not much you can do about it. It's not likely that there's going to be revolutions in the streets, so what can anyone do about it?

This is why I applaud PKimmage for his, albeit slightly over-the-top, position - he's as mad as hell, and he's not going to take it any more. This type of passion and outspoken-ness I would welcome much more.

F*** the establishment - they're doing it wrong.

Take a look at any other number of sports and it's equally bleak though - Football and FIFA, Formula 1 and the FIA (though somewhat less since it's been taken over by Jean Todt instead of Mosley), MotoGP and DORNA.

It's a freaking disaster all over the place. Though out of all the many poor examples of Sports Management above, I still think the UCI make them all look like highly-polished, professional organisations. The way the UCI run cycling makes the sport look like it is the domain of the simple. Which, quite frankly, is infuriating.

Betsy Andreu convinced Anto Moran of Cycling Ireland to do the right thing and vote against McQuaid.

Chapeau Betsy.

'Off the ball' on newstalk.ie had an interview with Anto Moran who stepped down after voting against McQuaid. It will be podcasted later tonight or tomorrow.

Always nice when the writer offers this kind of context just to round out the article:

"...“Having said all of that, if Pat McQuaid gets back in and does a great job and cleans up cycling, I will be the first to doff my cap to him. It genuinely is nothing personal but we simply have to have accountability.”

Meanwhile, it emerged last night that Lance Armstrong produced four positive tests for use of banned substances during 1999 Tour de France, rather than one as previously reported.

This has to be the most depressing thread in the clinic. Basically Pat and Hein are like zombies, no matter how many limbs you hack off they still keep coming at ya.

Along with the Olympics monopoly, they have a worldwide monopoly on competitive cycling with ASO and RCS providing most of the elite events and (expensive and complicated) production.

There's no member direction on either a national level or international level, no transparency, and it's Hein's fiefdom. All of which should be crystal clear with the release of the "confidential" memo regarding Wonderboy's positives. Guaranteed worldwide revenue with who knows how many people skimming off the top of the revenue before it arrives at the UCI.

What's not to like?
