More from that great NYT article -

"When Mr. Reedie took over, the inquiry into Russia stalled, according to several people at WADA.

"Case Boils Over

"Mr. Robertson needed help on the case. He needed more personnel and more money to conduct a thorough investigation. But again and again, he was met with a wait-and-see attitude.

"Frustrated, he forced WADA’s hand, according to several people in the organization. He leaked information on the case to Hajo Seppelt, a journalist for the German broadcasting company ARD.

"Mr. Seppelt’s bombshell report, “The Secrets of Doping: How Russia Makes Its Winners,” aired on Dec. 3, 2014."

So we now know how Seppelt got his starter - a WADA official who was annoyed that Reedie was shutting down the investigation.

Can this get some serious public airing ? How much did UK Sport spend of our money on getting Cookson Reedie and Coe into office ?

Surprised that nobody has made mention of the highly visible, ongoing involvement of one Mr. Pound in bringing Russia to accountability.

Even with Lance finally going down in flames, it appears that there must still be a lot of 'pounders in our midst.

Dave.

Jeez, where to begin. Well, the NYT, what I can say. Yes, I have posted articles (one or two from the NYT) on the USOC and USATF covering up hundreds of positive tests in 80's, 90's and early 2000's, so maybe I am being a hypocrite when I say, the NYT was also the media outlet that was pushing the pro-war agenda in Afghanistan and particularly Iraq. Saying specifically that Saddam Hussein had WMD (that came out to be a flat out lie where thousands of American and other soldiers died and hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis). The NYT loses some credibility when they start pushing a certain agenda, be it the Iraq War or this Russian doping scandal. You won't see them being critical of US doping. Like I said, they did have articles on the coverup that Wade Exum made public, but if you look those up, they are almost like your local police report, a few sentences and one or two quotes and that's it.

Cookson, Reedie, Coe and let's add Pound in there as well. These guys are all corrupt, no doubt about that. I made a remark on Coe yesterday. The guy went from being in on the bribes and manipulation, then when the alleged reports came in, he said 'the integrity of the IAAF is being attacked and we have to defend it....' then he manipulated some more then he told the Russians the needed to 'clean up their act' and now he is banning them from the Olympics. The guy was a one of the greatest track athletes in the 70's and 80's, but off the track he has been anything but the greatest, unless we consider him successful at bribes and manipulation as a politician and an IAAF leader. The guy is just part of the corruption. Can you imagine if they were going after the Brits?

Reedie, Cookson and Pound are in similar situations. It's sort of like replacing Blatter with Infantino. Replacing corruption with Corruption.

Good luck trying to get someone with credibility to run these huge organizations/corporations.

Reedie being asked by Seppelt

"Have you ever sent/exchanged emails to IOC members in 2015 hoping other Russian sports didn't face investigation?"

Reedie : "I am frightened to say no, presumably you have a letter?"

Sir Gaff doing his best to protect the Russians...

The note, written on Wada-headed paper, appears to tip off Bubka that trouble was brewing for athletics in the shape of a new documentary by the German anti-doping journalist Hajo Seppelt.
It signs off with the message: "Hope no more damage will be done. Craig."
The ARD documentary made allegations of widespread blood doping.

The BBC showed the note to Jack Robertson, Wada's chief investigator from 2011 to 2016 and a key figure in the organisation's independent commission into Russian doping and corruption allegations.
"Considering this note is in fact penned by Craig Reedie, it is extremely disappointing but not surprising," said Robertson.

"If he wrote these words then, to me, this further illustrates his overall loyalties clearly rest with the national and international federations - in this case the IAAF - and not the protection of clean athletes' rights.
"His mindset should have been an eagerness to learn if any further revelations were unearthed… showing further potentially valuable evidence of systematic doping and criminal misconduct.
"Instead, this note shows he is more concerned about further embarrassment to an IAAF vice-president than discovering and seeking the truth."

Robertson also questioned Sir Craig's rigour.

"Craig has been very public that his management style is an avoidance of conflict, which would be wonderful if he were president of his homeowners' association, but certainly not as leader of Wada and the global anti-doping community," he added.

I have to admit, I don't think Reedie cares that much. He is leaving next year back into the IOC. Most of the media is concentrating on Russia not realizing that its western sports leaders which enabled all of this to occur. With that said if they allowed Russia to dope they most certainly allowing for their own countries - UK, USA etc,

We have now officially more than 15% of labs that have lost there accreditation #wada

Sport really cleaning up its act if there are no needed labs to test athletes as all are clean!

WADA on 7th December 2014 wrote to Dr Rodchenkov to 'advise' him of a surprise inspection of the Moscow Lab.

WADA obviously do not understand what a surprise visit means!

But then WADA has not got a clue what anti-doping is either so it comes as no real surprise.

WADA gives warnings ahead of its testing, then accuses same lab it gave warning to, of not being 'legitimate.' I think WADA needs to be banned as well. Who do these people think we are and who do they think they are? Either do your job as you were meant to or let someone else that is willing to do it, OR don't have anti-doping at all and stop embarrassing yourself. First they are ok with the Russians, then all of a sudden they are not? Either they were too stupid to see what was happening (if all of the accusations are true) or they were part of the problem. Either way, WADA comes out of this looking pathetic. It's too bad most people won't care about that. They will only care to throw the Russians out of the Olympics and beyond. Expect them to lose the 2018 World Cup next. No doubt about that.

Perhaps they just want to run everything through Lausanne? Control the outcome.

You may find it interesting that the IOC's" Mister Fix It," Marital Saugy is no longer in charge in Lausanne.

Also, this would be the second time Rio's lab has been decertified. The first was when Rio hosted FIFA's world cup. Suprised?

Everyone is good at identifying the "problem" in this case WADA. Can I suggest we start suggesting solutions? What is your solution Benotti or do you just like propagating a sense of hopelessness?

How about trying to fix said "problem" for starters? Get an actual independent agency to run anti-doping and advise national federations and then stop making things so political. I know that suggestion is hard to actually see come to fruition, but it would be a nice step forward, real change....for a change!

I have posted this before.

WADA to be truly independent, not a PR agency. Craig Reedie is a member of IOC, vice pres, what a massive conflict of interest.

How about whistleblowers being held in high esteem and rewarded instead of ignored or tolerated at best.

How about Sporting federations being dragged out of Switzerland and into the real world where they are answerable to real laws.

Sport is big business and should be accountable in the same manner. Sporting fraud, cheating or doping should be a crime punishable financially and a criminal record.

Prison sentences for coaches, managers, director sportifs, doctors and others that enable the doping.

Lifetime bans.

The big problem is that athletes dont fear getting caught. The system is stacked in the dopers favour. Need to break the culture.

There are plenty of ways to make an athlete or other think twice about doping.

What would you do?
