These emails paint Floyd in the best light possible. Nice work RadioShack. :D

Perhaps that's the strategy. Make sure he's respectable again, only to launch the final attack, hire him for Radioshack as a spokesperson and make him withdraw everything he once said :p

It may be that Armstrong's responses were just phone calls, rather than anything in writing. I'm assuming it was a phone call to Kay when Lance questioned Landis's mental health and Kay's ability as a doctor.

While that could be true, I can't imagine Lance not responding by email. Hiding behind a keyboard is the perfect way to avoid direct human confrontation.

Unless LA planned ahead and delivered all his incriminating drivel over the phone so it could not be documented in writing.

Armstrong attempts to smear a former teammate - and fails! This is not the Armstrong we know. He's shook.

Don't really know anything about Dr. Kay, but man, I feel sorry for the guy. Caught in the middle of this ****storm. Landis on one hand, chomping at the bit and with nothing to lose, Strongarm on the other side making threats. Meanwhile his wife is sick? Geez.

nice image of strongarm calling Floyd's friends and telling them all he is an alcoholic and mentally unstable...so this is strongarm at his best? All I can say is that I know 13 year old kids from my neighborhood who go on facebook who can do a better hack/sliming operation...this guy has a legal team?

I had to laugh tho at the mention of whomever over at Velonews being a cokehead...christ, I need a shower after reading this stuff...

This looks like a pretty big faux pas by Armstrong's public relations campaign. They said that they would release emails from a liar and crazy man trying to blackmail money from them, but what they released does not come close to supporting the accusations. The charges of blackmail are a very creative interpretation of the emails, and the one bit about RS hiring Landis was not even written by Landis.

They have damaged their own credibility by overreaching.

my guess is someone is going to get fired over this...or a whole crew of idiots...this was ridiculous...so bad that someone even asked if somebody had hacked into livestrong and put them on there...for a sec, it made sense as none of this makes any of strongarm's points...indeed, quite the opposite...he comes off as threatening this Dr. Kay whose wife is sick and he sounds sick as well, calling Landis' friends and telling them he is an alcoholic and mentally unstable ect...just bizarre...

What Drama!

Holy smokes!

Those letters are intense. They don't help Armstrong--instead they make Landis seem more human and grounded, if irrational.

The letters from Dr. Kay were very moving--it's apparent that the suffering over the Landis Affair goes well beyond Landis and his immediate family. It's amazing that Landis has a friend like this who is trying to look out for his interests but still decided to take the fateful step. However, Kay's suggestions were probably unrealistic at that point.

I suppose these emails may make Landis seem less than heroic, as he is talking about being anti-doping while his close associate talks up his potential to win the Tour of California and the Vuelta etc. It's nebulous whether Landis is actually talking about measures to curb doping or whether it's a kind of veiled threat.

I just realized that I forgot to add a big endorsement for Dr. Kay. He sounds like a really nice guy who is stuck in the middle of a crappy situation and just trying to negotiate a positive outcome for all involved.

Good on you Dr. Kay, sorry that Armstrong is such a dic!.

I fully expected these e-mails to show a level of crazy that would further damage Floyd. I honestly believed there would be insane accusations and random crap.
But the e-mails are written in a normal, balanced manner, inviting people to get involved in an attempt to clean up cycling if they are so inclined.

Armstrong is completely clutching at straws here.
Where's the evidence of extorsion and all the other accusations Armstrong levelled? There's nothing at all.

Is blackmail for not being allowed to ride in the TOC a potable defence? The weight and gravity of Landis' claims are severely disproportionate to the simple inability to ride in the Amgen Tour of California. Of course if this is step one in the paint-by-numbers-portrait of Floyd as a bit nuts I can understand you have to start somewhere. But then again Lance's ad hominem attacks of LeMond didn't really prosper in the end, so... why go down that road again?
why to go this road? did armstrong have any other choice ? they are destroying a character that's been destroyed way before. a salvo in the air before the battles begin.

Very odd. The acid test is what the fanboys are saying, if this even confuses them then it's a massive own goal for LA.

Intersting to note even the comments on the Radioshack site saying "whats all this about"? It tells us nothing. The tide is turning. My god I'd never thought I'd see the day.

I did too. I really expected for Floyd to go down in flames when these emails came out. Not that I think that makes Lance any less a doper but I didn't think Floyd had the self control to handle this as well as he is.

is it really that bad to snort coke? Really is the stigma still there? Look I can't do it myself, problem with my nose and general dislike from most drugs, but I know many in my study and line of work that do it and it really is not that big a deal anymore here in Europe, mainly due to the fact that many high-level professionals need it to work those long hours, is the stigma still there in the US?
I wouldn't be surprised if the entire writing and editing staff of velonews does coke, so you could point to anyone and be correct :p
BTW don't mind me I'm just bored

that's great...who the hell did this I wonder or made this decision? Rather than being Shakespearian it more rather a swan dive...I thought this guy had minders?
