There is no widespread doping in Australia. Australia is not part of Eastern Europe.
definitely not 'in'... all happens in New Zealand like they said

or Arizona, or Nevada (Vegas, usually just coke), or Colorado

I found it interesting that fox sports news was reporting the two guys from Collingwood as testing positive to the same drug that Alberto Contador did in 2010....and don't get me wrong that was how the article ran, clips of the two dudes then Bertie holding his arms up in victory on the Champs...Because I am pretty sure there have been some other Australian sports peeps who have test positive for Clen out there.

I also find it disgusting that the boss of the AFL doesn't think ASADA should appeal the Essendon case....another WTF moment....

Re: Australian Crime Commission investigation finds widespre

Here's an article from Peter Fitzsimons that I would imagine is a more accurate reflection of people that aren't Essendon players, or part of the AFL gravy train.

http://www.smh.com.au/sport/the-fitz-fi ... mcz1t.html

Please. Oh people, my people, can we get a grip here?

The first and most obvious thing to note is this was not a decision handed down by the High Court of Australia. It was, instead, the AFL's own tribunal finding that the AFL didn't in fact have the colossal problem it would have had, if they had come up with any other decision.

This is not to impugn the integrity of those who sit on the tribunal, but to observe that it is a quasi-judicial body set up by the AFL itself, not the full monty with a high bench, horse-hair and three gavels. Whereas the likes of New Zealand and Great Britain have fully funded independent judicial bodies with full judicial powers, populated by specialists in sports law, this was not that.

It was not only fox sports who made the connection, the ABC did as well talking about disgraced cyclist Alberto Contador. It was probably used because it was the first thing they could find out using google.

This being Australia and it being only last year he was cleared you'd think "Rogers" would have poped up in their mind before "Google".

This whole incident is a tragedy for anyone hoping to see clean competition promoted in Aussie sports. ASADA had one chance, aided by other law enforcement agencies, to reveal the widespread doping that we know exists, and prove that they need more funding and power to protect clean athletes and uphold the principles behind fair competition. Now with this farcical result, they have shown to be incompetent and toothless. There is talk of a senate inquiry into the agency, and they will probably lose some powers/funding. The failure to convict any players of doping (and the extremely light sanctions on Hird and Dank) is the real "blackest day in aussie sport". I expect WADA will be furious, but they are no longer the force they were under *** pound. As it stands, the AFL was getting more serious over the last 2 years on testing, but this will throw them back to the 2000s, rugby league is an absolute joke, union isn't much better, the AIS and especially the Olympic swimming program are the USPostal of Aus and even the cricketers are as big as rugby players these days.

The media still points to the problems in cycling and we have the same mentality that overseas athletes dopes but the honest aussies that finish narrowly behind them don't that the UK seems to have. Every time someone here finds out I'm a cycling fan they ask "How can you enjoy it when you know they all dope?" I tell them it's preferable to whatever their favourite sport is where everyone dopes as well but the governing body does nothing about it.

Fully agree, EarnstMorrissey it's farcical.

Cycling really is the whipping boy of the anti-doping movement. And it sucks.

the analogy is geo-politics, primer101, "create enemy".

cycling is not "enemy" but, "village idjit".

you can always point to cycling, "look! there is a wombat".

dont worry about the institutionalised formal programs at the professional sports team leagues in N America and Europe. Dont worry about boxing and MMA and weightlifting. Dont concern yourself with swimming nor track and field.

WADA is appealing to CAS:

We have now completed our independent review of the full case file on the AFL Anti-Doping Appeals Tribunal decision regarding 34 current and former Essendon players.

After a thorough examination of the evidence contained within the file, WADA has decided to lodge its independent right of appeal to the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

As with all pending cases, and adhering to the proper and normal respect for the integrity of the legal process, WADA will refrain from commenting further on the subject until a decision has been made by CAS.

Now what has WADA to do with the AFL? Could someone enlighten me.
they are appealling a decision made by the ASADA australian anti-doping association. cos ASADA are a part...

wait, no. ASADA brought a case, but the judgement was made by the Austalian Rules Football League, the AFL, and let the players off. shell game.

But WADA are appealling and gonna take it to the International Court of Sport or where-ever.

Essendon might be fukced this time

They still don't have the power to compel the players to answer questions, so I fail to see how this is going to change anything?

AFL are signatories to the WADA code. That's how WADA can appeal. Pretty simple really.

I think the issue is that the AFL Comission let them off because basically the sports scientist refused to testify, destroyed all evidence of the injection regime and there was no other evidence to show what exactly went into the players. Now I don't agree but I understand why the commission came to that conclusion. They basically said "how can we find you guilty with no real evidence of what went on".

WADA (and ASADA for that matter) see it differently. They saw:
- Essendon Football Club systematically doping their players
- Not following any sort of protocol in regards to record keeping
- Witholding or destroying evidence

Obviously they can't let this stand as a precedent.

And then? Assume Ess players are banned... Would the AFL let it happen to get hit pretty hard, one of their most attracting teams downsized to the 2nd coming of the GWS Giants (of the past).

I dont know, it will only be about half their players by the time this has played out, because some will have retired, or come into the club after the doping regime occurred,

they are aging list anyway, Watson, Fletcher, Chapman, Goddard. Only two of those players count, Watson and Goddard, and Goddard crossed over after from St Kilda, so not involved. But he did get tartget tested by the ASADA vampires, cos he was doing peptides on his own, but they could not bust him. they are all on it like all the other sports.

It´s just my first full season, so I am not very confident with all the names yet (besides the true superstars like Riewoldt, Franklin, Roughead, etc.)... So you mean it´s about half of their (Ess) active players, inclusive "the two that count"? Well, even 2nd tier players are needed in this cruel but awesome game... If they lose them, say hello to 1-21 seasons.

Sure, I am not naive, no doubt they (AFL) are on the needles too... Always said cycling is just a scapegoat, they (cycling) are not worse than any other pro sport.

Stephen Dank, the sports scientist behind the program, was given a ban by the AFL. He is apparently appealing the decision. This might see him speak about this for the first time. If this happens before the appeal to CAS it could makes things interesting.

actually, its only one. Watson. There are other stars on Essendon that are implicated. But Watson is about 29, not young, but the AFL is a little like Horner now, it is extending the careers of some (thru androgens),

I assume you are German Foxy, so you know how Bild harassed Ullrich, and the cycling doping, as the village idjit. No mention of lastyears die Meinschaft World Cup doping.

doping is there everywhere. But now, the AFL players are doing the new school of doping, like die Meinschaft, they are now athletic like a 1990 Oympic calibre decathlete. = NOT NORMAL. like die/der Meischaft. you can see i dont speak deutsche

I heard this week Essendon were actually the youngest list (squad). So there list is not old. So I may have been incorrect. Take out Jobe Watson tho, and their team returns to merely mediocre. Take out the other players involved in doping, it would be wooden spoons (wooden spoon is the bottom of the ladder), or, in continental football parlance, it would be "relegation zone, but the bottom of the relegation teams"
