I think doping is what really makes this sport unpredictable. The idea that riders like Pog/Rog will dominate for the next decade makes sense until you factor in the unpredictability of that particular aspect of the sport. And I’m not saying anything about them or anyone else in particular, but just that any rider or group of riders can have massive swings in either direction overnight, and we’re back in an era where that is increasingly commonplace.

The third moment in the last year where I wanted to close my tv while watching cycling after Pogacar PDBF and Dennis Stelvio. If I can understand some overperformances, what happened today is ridiculous. Not only he attacked from far and put a lot of time but he also did it after yesterday's effort and at the end the guy didn't even look tired.

I wonder why Bahrain doesn't even want to keep the appearances. Like make him attack much later and the gap could've been much shorter, there was no need for overkill. Do they think we're gonna be impressed and believe that a guy with no big results become a top5 climber with monstrous recovery after an altitude camp?

Now the overperformances from Caruso, Mader and Tratnik on the Giro climbs start to raise some questions too.

To be honest I wouldn't be surprised to see some positive results from them.
With the policies of agencies like WADA and UCI in recent years, it's hard to say. Padun isn't a giant like Froome was when he got popped after the 2017 Vuelta (and the results were eventually explained away without penalty), so maybe he's not "too big to fail" . . . but we'll see.

Padun won in Tre Cime de Laveredo in 2019. He was always talented, but this is absurd.

He ground them off his wheel like Sayar in Turkey 2013. Faster than all the top riders in 2006, faster than Ullrich, minute faster than 2012 dauphine on the joux plane.

This is really not what Caruso needed after that giro performance. Making things too obvious.

Wouldn't surprise me if he got popped because he won't bring anyone down with him.

That stage didn't go up to the tre cime, it finished in Misurina.

I would concede that Padun's performances this weekend (Dauphine, stages 7 and 8) are not as magical a transformation as Froome's at the 2011 Vuelta.

Who are the Bahrain DSs and mangers ?

Seem to me that they must have got it in the neck about being non victorious last year especially when their nearest neighbor and biggest rival won the Tour

Something is a foot ...Padun 2 days in a row tearing up the records and all cos he lost 4.5KGs....not buying it

UCI cant travel for testing during COVID

And I dont care how well he interviews ...its bollix

I halfway want him to try to emulate like, mid-00s Rasmussen at the Tour and just try to solo every single Pyrenees stage and see what happens
I had a similar idea. I believe it was the only time in my life i had a big brain moment so i decided to brag about it in what i assumed more popular place (y'know, like a little kid i am), but it seems this one is also getting lively.

I would say that Padun wins TdF but i feel he made a gross mistake. If he flew under the radar he could loose like 2-3 min and then go absolutely ham on the first alpine stage, gain like 3-4 mins like a certain Danish chicken and with this form and juice he could as well bring it home to Paris unless he would be popped, also like a certain Danish chicken.

favorite comment so far:

"They are going to do to Bahrain and Padun what they did to Iban Mayo in 2003. Tour is INEOS territory."
Don't think Ineos has the same political power though as Arnstrong had. The UK market is already secured, they had 3 Tour winners and nowadays everyone is about the Slovenians anyway.

Side note: the Mayo story still makes me angry.
